Walmart invests in America

Walmart is investing in American-made products by expanding initiatives that support local small businesses — a move driven by President Donald Trump's tariff policy and push to bring manufacturing back to the U.S.

The details: This week, Walmart announced its plans to expand two major pro-U.S. initiatives:

• Grow with US: This initiative offers U.S. small businesses training, mentorship, and resources to grow their product lines in Walmart.

• 2025 Open Call: This program gives U.S. small and medium-sized businesses the opportunity to pitch their products directly to Walmart and Sam's Club merchants. Events are held in cities across the country.

Zoom out: Walmart says more than 2/3 of its products are "made, grown, or assembled" in the U.S. And over 60% of its U.S. suppliers last year were small businesses.

What they’re saying: In a press release, Walmart wrote: “Small businesses are the backbone of our communities... We're excited to continue providing support for and championing the achievements of these businesses every step of the way.”

Big picture: President Trump has imposed a 145% tariff on imports from China, providing a huge incentive for companies like Walmart to invest in U.S. businesses that face no tariff.

Trans-identifying male dominates U.S. women's swim nationals

A biologically male swimmer identifying as female swept gold in five individual events at the U.S. Masters Swimming Spring National Championships.

The details: Ana Caldas, who has also competed under the names Hannah and Hugo Caldas, competed in the 45–49 women’s division and won every event he entered.

• He won by margins as wide as four seconds — which is considered a blowout in elite short-distance swimming.

The rules: The U.S. Masters Swimming competition allows biological men to compete against women as long as they can show proof that they've received hormone therapy to reduce their testosterone levels.

Reality check: We know that there is no level of testosterone suppression that can undo the physical biological advantages that a man naturally has in sports — bone density, lung capacity, muscle fiber density, skeletal structure — especially for a man his age.

What Americans think: A poll from earlier this year found that 79% of Americans oppose letting biological men compete against women — including 67% of Democrats.
