Good morning, Wake Up Right fam! I read a headline this morning that said: “Costco changes beloved $1.50 hot dog deal for the first time in decades” – and I’ll be honest, my heart dropped.
Turns out, the “change” is that customers can now swap the soda for a bottle of water. That’s it. Crisis averted. Republic still standing.
Here’s the thing: I don’t even get the hot dog combo. But I like knowing it’s there – cheap and stubbornly immune to the chaos of modern life.

Supreme Court hands GOP big win ahead of midterms
The Supreme Court didn’t just hand Louisiana a win yesterday – it gave Republican-led states a roadmap for the next phase of the 2026 redistricting war.
The details: In a 6-3 ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, the Court rejected Louisiana’s congressional map after the state added a second majority-black district.
Justice Samuel Alito, writing for the majority, said Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act “was designed to enforce the Constitution — not collide with it.”
The Court held that Louisiana’s use of race in drawing the district was unconstitutional because the Voting Rights Act did not require the state to create it.
Why it matters: The ruling does not eliminate Section 2 outright. But it sharply limits how far states and lower courts can go in using race to justify majority-minority districts.
That’s where the political earthquake begins.
The numbers: If Republican-led states move aggressively, the GOP could potentially net as many as 12 House seats across Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves has already floated a special session to redraw the map.
Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn is pushing lawmakers to target a Memphis-area Democratic seat.
Meanwhile, in Florida, they’re already making moves as lawmakers passed a new Congressional map pushed by Gov. Ron DeSantis that could net the GOP four new House seats.
What the Dems are saying: They're doing what they do – crying. House Minority Leader Hakeem "Lurch" Jeffries said: “Voter suppression is a way of life for Donald Trump and far-right extremists on the Supreme Court."
The last word goes to President Donald Trump, whose reaction on Truth Social cut to the core of the decision, calling it “a BIG WIN for Equal Protection under the Law, as it returns the Voting Rights Act to its Original Intent, which was to protect against intentional Racial Discrimination.”

Crash Expert: “This Looks Like 1929” → 71,048 Diversifying Here
Mark Spitznagel, who made $1B in a single day during the 2015 flash crash, warned markets are mimicking 1929. Seems extreme but we did just see the worst quarter for the S&P since 2022.
So it’s not so surprising that Vanguard and Goldman Sachs forecasted 5% and 3% annual S&P returns respectively for 2024-2034.
Almost no one knows this, but postwar and contemporary art appreciated 10.2% annually with near-zero correlation to equities from 1995–2025 overall.*

Biden DOJ targeted MAGA nuns

Newly released text messages show Biden-era Justice Department prosecutors joking about finding and prosecuting Catholic nuns who attended the Jan. 6 “Stop the Steal” rally — fueling fresh accusations that the DOJ targeted conservatives and people of faith.
The details: The messages, released by Sen. Chuck Grassley, show DOJ prosecutors Joseph Cooney and Molly Gaston discussing media coverage of religious sisters who attended the rally wearing traditional habits, veils and pro-Trump scarves.
After seeing the nuns, Gaston texted Cooney: “I would like to take a special assignment of finding and prosecuting them.”
Cooney replied: “I’m with you. Although I’d like to prosecute any nun who still wears the head habit.”
Why it matters: These weren't low-level scrubs in a group chat. Cooney and Gaston served as top deputies to Special Counsel Jack Smith during his witch hunt against President Trump.
Quote: Senator Grassley said, “I was appalled, but sadly not surprised, to discover evidence of Biden DOJ prosecutors threatening to use the power of the federal justice system to target people of faith.”
Zoom out: Cooney is now running as a Democrat for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, part of the Diocese of Arlington — one of the country’s most traditional Catholic dioceses.
It’s a pattern: The nun texts come after a DOJ review found Biden-era prosecutors used the FACE Act unevenly – coordinating with pro-abortion groups, tracking pro-life activists’ travel, seeking tougher sentences for pro-life defendants, and downplaying attacks on pregnancy centers and houses of worship.
