Wake Up Right - April 8, 2025

Good morning, folks! The "Black Monday" stock market crash predicted over the weekend by financial “experts” never came... Markets closed yesterday slightly down — however, the NASDAQ finished in the green. And today’s stock futures are indicating a big bounce-back as Trump begins trade negotiations.
Don’t be a PANICAN: In a Truth Social post yesterday, President Trump advised politicos and investors to keep a steady hand, saying:
"The United States has a chance to do something that should have been done DECADES AGO. Don’t be Weak! Don’t be Stupid! Don’t be a PANICAN (A new party based on Weak and Stupid people!). Be Strong, Courageous, and Patient, and GREATNESS will be the result!"
Housekeeping: There was a formatting issue in yesterday’s newsletter where the text appeared very small and stretched out. This should be resolved.

Supreme Court backs Trump’s deportations

The Supreme Court greenlit the Trump administration's ability to use the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to deport illegal alien gang members after a lower court judge tried to stop the removals.
Back up: In March, Obama-appointed Judge James Boasberg ordered the Trump administration to halt deportations of Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang members under the Alien Enemies Act and demanded the return of flights already en route to Central America.
The details: The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 to overturn Boasberg’s order yesterday, with all conservative justices except Amy Coney Barrett joining the majority.
The court also ruled that Boasberg’s court in D.C. was the wrong venue for the case, and it should instead be moved to Texas — much friendlier territory for the Trump admin.
On the flip side: The court did agree that detainees deserve judicial review — just in the proper jurisdiction.
Zoom out: In February, the State Department designated TdA as a "foreign terrorist organization" after the Venezuelan gang festered inside the U.S. during Joe Biden's tenure.
Amy, Amy, Amy: We are going to have to start a “voted with the liberals” jar for Justice Amy Coney Barrett. Over the past year, she’s:
…just to name a few.
A word from Team Trump: Attorney General Pam Bondi responded to the news, writing on X:
“Tonight’s decision is a landmark victory for the rule of law. An activist judge in Washington, DC does not have the jurisdiction to seize control of President Trump’s authority to conduct foreign policy and keep the American people safe.”
The last word goes to President Trump, who reacted to the news on Truth Social, calling it: “A GREAT DAY FOR JUSTICE IN AMERICA!”

Playing God: Scientists bring Dire Wolf back from extinction

Scientists have brought the Dire Wolf — popularized by the Game of Thrones series — back from 13,000 years of extinction.
The Backstory: Dire wolves, extinct for over 10,000 years, were formidable predators during the Ice Age, known for their large size and powerful build.
The details: Scientists at Colossal Biosciences extracted DNA from ancient dire wolf fossils—a 13,000-year-old tooth and a 72,000-year-old skull—to identify key genetic differences from modern gray wolves.
They edited 14 specific genes in gray wolf cells to reflect dire wolf traits, such as larger size and white fur.
These edited cells were used to create embryos, implanted into surrogate domestic dogs, resulting in the birth of three pups — Romulus, Remus, and Khaleesi.
Current Status: The pups are being raised in a secure, undisclosed nature preserve, where scientists will monitor their development and behavior.
Debate: The emergence of this technology raises questions over the ethics of “playing God.” Should humans be tinkering with nature? If we can edit the size and color of a wolf, what will stop us from eventually doing this to humans? Aside from the moral and ethical dilemmas, there are also ecological ones. When you introduce a new predator into an ecosystem, it has downstream effects on every other living creature.
What's Next: Colossal Biosciences aims to apply similar techniques to other de-extinction projects, including efforts to revive the woolly mammoth and the Tasmanian tiger.

Shop the Wake Up Right store!

About a month ago, I was at a butcher in my neighborhood and saw a diagram of a cow, with all the cuts of meat labeled. And that gave me an idea for a t-shirt:
DOGE Butcher Shop — but instead of the cow, we use a pig. And the cuts of meat in the diagram represent all the waste, fraud, and abuse being butchered by the Trump admin.
Over the last few weeks, I worked with a really talented graphic designer who brought it to life. And on Friday I got a sample in the mail and I’m happy to say, it came out better than I’d hoped.
Also, my wife told me I had to mention that the t-shirt it’s printed on is Comfort Colors. Apparently, they’re well-known for high-quality materials. I just chose them because they are printed in the U.S. and made with 100 U.S. cotton.
