Wake Up Right - August 20, 2025

`

Good morning, Wake Up Right fam! I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a new batch of Gen-Alpha and Gen-Z slang words has officially breached the lexicon of modern English vocabulary…
This week, the Cambridge Dictionary announced it had added words like “skibidi” and “delulu.”
Delulu is straightforward – an abbreviation of “delisional”
Skibidi, on the other hand, “has different meanings such as cool or bad, or can be used with no real meaning as a joke.”
That’s enough brainrot for one day. Let’s get to the skibidi and delulu news that actually matters today.

Trump pledges to take on voter fraud

President Donald Trump plans to sign an executive order banning mail-in voting and electronic tabulation machines – which he says are needed to restore “honesty” ahead of the 2026 midterms.
The details: Trump pledged to “lead a movement” to outlaw mail-in ballots nationwide and replace electronic machines with paper ballots featuring watermarks. He called voting machines “highly inaccurate” and “seriously controversial.”
Does he have the authority? Trump argued states are “agents” of the federal government when it comes to counting votes — claiming the president has the power to dictate standards.
Democrats, who favor vote-by-mail schemes, argue that states have the right to decide the rules.
Many legal experts argue that states only have the authority to administer elections [times, places, etc], but the rules and regulations [vote-by-mail, early voting] are under Congress’ authority.
What the Constitution says: Article I, Section 4 says: “The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations.”
Biden regulated elections: Trump is not unique in his desire to regulate federal elections from the executive branch. In 2021, Biden signed an executive order directing executive branch departments to use federal resources to get out the vote.
Back up: During the 2020 presidential election, many states used the COVID-19 pandemic to drastically expand vote-by-mail and early voting – which Trump argues is ripe with fraud. And this newsletter agrees.
Fraud is real: Just last week, Michigan city councilman Abu Musa was caught on security camera stuffing a ballot drop-box with absentee ballots.
Zoom out: Most Western nations – such as France, Italy, Germany, and Spain – do not permit the widespread mail-in-ballot voting seen in the U.S.
The last word goes to Trump, who wrote on Truth Social: “ELECTIONS CAN NEVER BE HONEST WITH MAIL IN BALLOTS/VOTING, and everybody, IN PARTICULAR THE DEMOCRATS, KNOWS THIS. I, AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, WILL FIGHT LIKE HELL TO BRING HONESTY AND INTEGRITY BACK TO OUR ELECTIONS.”

RFK Jr. calls pediatrics pushing COVID-19 shots on kids a ‘pay-to-play scheme’

For the first time in 30 years, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has broken from the CDC by recommending COVID shots for children as young as 6 months — raising ethical questions since its top donors include vaccine makers like Pfizer and Moderna.
Back up: The CDC officially withdrew its recommendation that healthy children receive the COVID-19 vaccine on May 27. Previously, the jab was advised for kids as young as 6 months.
The details: AAP released its annual immunization schedule for children on Tuesday, which included the COVID-19 shot for all children ages 6 through 23 months old.
It warned: "Infants and children 6 through 23 months of age are at the highest risk for severe COVID-19.”
Pay-for-play: Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. called out the AAP in an X post, arguing that it’s unethical for a pediatric group reliant on vaccine-maker funding to push universal child COVID shots.
Kennedy shared a screenshot of their "President's Circle" donors, which include COVID vaccine makers Pfizer, Moderna, Sanofi, and Merck (who contributed to the J&J vaccine). He noted:
“These four companies make virtually every vaccine on the CDC recommended childhood vaccine schedule. AAP is angry that CDC has eliminated corporate influence.”
"AAP should follow the lead of HHS and disclose conflicts of interest, including its corporate entanglements... so that Americans may ask whether the AAP’s recommendations reflect public health interest, or are, perhaps, just a pay-to-play scheme to promote commercial ambitions of AAP’s Big Pharma benefactors."
Liability: Kennedy also reminded the AAP that only vaccines recommended by the CDC are covered under the 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act, meaning doctors and hospitals would be liable for injuries stemming from the Covid vaccines.
Big picture: AAP’s defiance of the CDC guidance highlights the battle between corporate-backed medicine and a federal shift toward parental choice.

A few months ago, I was at a butcher in my neighborhood and saw a diagram of a cow, with all the cuts of meat labeled. And that gave me an idea for a t-shirt:
DOGE Butcher Shop — but instead of the cow, we use a pig. And the cuts of meat in the diagram represent all the waste, fraud, and abuse being butchered by the Trump admin.
Over the last few weeks, I worked with a really talented graphic designer who brought it to life. And on Friday I got a sample in the mail and I’m happy to say, it came out better than I’d hoped.
Also, my wife told me I had to mention that the t-shirt it’s printed on is Comfort Colors. Apparently, they’re well-known for high-quality materials. I just chose them because they are printed in the U.S. and made with 100 U.S. cotton.
