MS-13 gang banger could be deported to Uganda

ICE arrested Kilmar Abrego Garcia – an illegal alien MS-13 gang member and human trafficker – just days after a judge released him from federal custody in Tennessee. He is now being processed for deportation to Uganda.

The backdrop: Garcia was first deported to El Salvador in March, but brought back to the United States to face charges of human trafficking in June. Last week, he was released from custody by a Tennessee judge, pending trial.

The details: Garcia surrendered himself to an ICE office in Baltimore on Monday, days after being released from custody by a Tennessee judge, pending trial. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristo Noem wrote on X:

• “Today, @ICEgov arrested this Salvadoran man and are processing him for deportation to Uganda. The American people are safer without this MS-13 gangbanger in our country roaming freely on our streets. No more. Good riddance.”

Uganda? DHS says it intends to deport Garcia to Uganda, which recently agreed to take illegal aliens that the U.S. cannot immediately return to their home countries.

His rap sheet: Aside from being an illegal alien, Garcia is an MS-13 gang member, human trafficker, wife beater, and child predator, according to Homeland Security.

What Garcia is saying: Speaking outside the ICE facility before his arrest, he lashed out against the Trump administration, saying: “God will bring justice to all of the injustice that we are suffering.”

Democrats being Democrats: Instead of condemning Garcia’s crimes, leftist lawmakers turned him into a poster child for ‘Trump’s mean deportations,’ staging protests outside ICE offices, amplifying his claims of victimhood.

Breaking: Far-left Obama-appointed judge Paula Xinis ruled late Monday that Garcia must remain in the U.S., pending a review of a lawsuit he filed against his deportation. Read more.

Real talk from G: The left’s obsession with this story isn’t about appeasing its rabid far-left base [though they eat it up]. The Department of War

President Donald Trump floated the idea of renaming the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) back to its historical moniker: the Department of War – looking to reclaim the wartime legacy of World Wars I and II.

The details: Speaking at the White House yesterday, President Trump told the press: "You know we call it the Department of Defense, but between us, I think we're going to change the name… maybe soon."

Historical context: The U.S. Department of War was established on August 7, 1789 – passed by Congress and signed by President George Washington. It lasted 158 years until September 18, 1947, when it was replaced.

• Trump noted: "We won… World War I, World War II. It was called the Department of War… We had an unbelievable history of victory when it was Department of War. Then we changed it to Department of Defense.”

Can Trump make the change? He thinks so. When asked by a reporter if he had the authority over Congress, he said: "We're just going to do it. I'm sure Congress will go along if we need that. I don't think we even need that."

• Precedent suggests he may need Congress. In both 1947 and 1949, Congress changed the name of the Department [National Military Establishment and Department of Defense, respectively].

What happens next? Senator Mike Lee looks to be getting the name-change ball rolling in Congress. He wrote on X:

• “I’m drafting a bill to restore the Department of War to its original name—the only name that captures the full range of America’s military capabilities.”
