Wake Up Right - December 16, 2024

Welcome back, folks! Over the weekend, President-elect Trump pledged to “eliminate Daylight Saving Time,” saying it’s “inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation.”

I might be in the minority here, but I appreciate the long, sunny evenings in the summer. What do you think?

Do you want to eliminate Daylight Savings Time?

Leave a comment and tell me why.

ABC forced to pay Trump millions

President-elect Donald Trump won a multi-million dollar settlement against ABC News and anchor George Stephanopoulos, who falsely claimed multiple times on-air that Trump was "liable for rape."

The details: According to court documents, ABC was required to pay Trump $15 million as a charitable contribution to his presidential library and cover more than $1 million in his attorney fees.

Now say you’re sorry: ABC and Stephanopoulos were also required to issue statements of regret, which read:

  • “ABC News and George Stephanopoulos regret statements regarding President Donald J. Trump made during an interview by George Stephanopoulos with Rep. Nancy Mace on ABC’s This Week on March 10, 2024.”

Very sincere…

Zoom in: The settlement stems from remarks Stephanopoulos made during a March interview with Rep. Nancy Mace, where he repeated the false claim that Trump was “liable for rape” ten times.

  • Trump was found liable for sexual abuse — not rape — in a civil case [civil cases, unlike criminal cases, carry a low burden of proof] brought by controversial journalist E. Jean Carroll who alleges Trump raped her in a department store in the mid-90s. He denies the allegations and is appealing this ruling.

Zoom out: Trump is also suing CBS News, seeking $10 billion in damages for deceptive edits it made during a ‘60 Minutes’ interview with Kamala Harris that he alleges were done to help the Democrat party.

Big picture: It’s poetic justice that little George paid the price. Back in the ’90s, he led Bill Clinton’s ‘war room,’ whose mission was to target and shame the women who accused the then-president of sexual assault.

Biden goes postal, wastes billions on electric mail trucks

Joe Biden gave billions of taxpayer dollars to a U.S. defense contractor to build a fleet of electric postal trucks. Today, just 93 are operational — highlighting the need for government efficiency. Perhaps a Department Of Government Efficiency?

The details: In 2022, the Biden regime handed out a $10 billion contract to Oshkosh Defense to build a fleet of 60,000 ‘Next Generation Delivery Vehicles’ (NGDV) — which is a fancy name for electric mail trucks. My quick math says that’s $166,666 per truck. Are they gold-plated?

Failing to deliver: As of November, Oshkosh only produced 93 NGDVs — falling way short of the 3,000 expected by now.

Political motivations: If you’re wondering why Biden gave a $10 billion mail truck contract to a defense contractor, it could have something to do with its location in the critical swing state of Wisconsin. Just speculating.

Zoom out: The U.S. Postal Service reported a $9.5 billion loss in Fiscal Year 2024.

Going green: The USPS aims to reduce its carbon emissions by 40% by 2030. Part of that directive includes only purchasing electric vehicles by 2026.

Solutions: President-elect Donald Trump has floated the idea of privatizing the USPS. Members of his Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, have reportedly "held preliminary conversations about major changes to the Postal Service."

Big picture: This story highlights two things I hate: 1). The government’s penchant for waste and abuse. 2). The left’s love for overspending [our money] on “green” technology.
