Wake Up Right - December 17, 2024

Good morning, Wake Up Right fam! Yesterday, President-elect Donald Trump stood and took questions from the press for over an hour on topics ranging from mystery drones to tariffs to pardons. Isn’t it refreshing? To have a leader who is not afraid to stand behind his positions and address the American people? We heard more from him in one day than we have from Biden in months.
I’ll link to the presser below. It’s worth watching.

What we know about the Missouri school shooting

A 15-year-old student identified as Natalie Rupnow opened fire inside Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday, killing a teacher and a teenage student and injuring six others.
The details: According to police, the shooter opened fire in a study hall session using a handgun. At 10:57 am, a second-grade student called 911 to report the attack.
The student and teacher who were killed have not been identified.
Two students remain in critical condition.
A teacher and three other students sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Suicide: Rupnow was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Transgender shooter? Madison Chief of Police Shon Barnes addressed online rumors that the shooter was transgender, saying: “Whether she, he, or they identified a certain way is of no consequence to our investigation right now."
Online footprint: Rupnow’s social media activity indicated a fascination with the Columbine shooters.
A disturbing alleged manifesto titled “War Against Humanity” surfaced, filled with violent rhetoric targeting men, racial slurs, and references to radical feminist ideology.
Biden plays politics: Joe Biden took to X to post a call for restrictions on the Second Amendment, demanding: “We need Congress to act. Now.” It’s worth noting that Biden did not post on social media when the United Healthcare CEO was gunned down in cold blood. I wonder why… 🤔
This story is developing. Please pray for the students, teachers, and their families.

DOGE hones in on first targets

President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, aims to cut $2 trillion in federal spending. A look at the duo’s X accounts and the official DOGE account shows where those cuts might come.
Hold up: While the duo plans to make significant cuts across the board, three areas that are off-limits are: medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.
The details: Fox Business compiled a list of potential targets:
IRS: Simplify the U.S. tax code, which has ballooned to 16 million words, causing 6.5 billion hours of annual tax prep.
Department of Defense: Address the Pentagon's repeated audit failures and unaccounted spending.
Department of Education & USDA: Target inefficiencies flagged in consecutive audit failures.
Congressional Spending: Reclaim $516 billion allocated to expired programs, some lapsed for over a decade.
Federal Workforce: End telework and repurpose thousands of vacant government buildings.
IT Modernization: Upgrade federal IT systems, where 80% of $100B is spent maintaining outdated tech.
Fraud Losses: Eliminate between $233B-$521B lost annually to fraud across federal programs.
Foreign Aid: Increase transparency on international spending, with some calls [including Ron Paul] to eliminate it entirely.
Delayed Projects: Cut red tape to expedite federal construction and infrastructure.
National Institutes of Health (NIH): Reallocate funds from niche studies (e.g., “microaggressions” and rat addiction behavior) back to taxpayers.
Big picture: As I write this, the U.S. national debt sits north of $36 trillion. In 2024, the federal government spent $1.8 trillion more than it took in. We are on a suicide path. DOGE isn’t a pet project — it’s a rescue mission.

Eliminate daylight savings time?
Yesterday, we discussed how President-elect Trump wants to end Daylight Savings and asked for your thoughts. It looks like I was, in fact, in the minority. 😂
Do you want to eliminate Daylight Savings Time?
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 ⏰ Yes (1158)
🟨⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️ 🕰️ No (367)
⏰ Yes: “The constant changing back and forth messes with the body's biorhythms. And if you have babies or animals, they don't understand why the schedule changes, and it's a pain to transition their schedules back and forth.”
🕰️ No: “Same as you - I enjoy the summer evenings! Although as a parent, making the adjustment with little kids is a nightmare.”
⌛️ Neither: “Personally I think the opposite, I think we should stay on daylight savings time. But either way, removing the swapping is a net positive in my opinion.”
❤️ My wife: “Try to change the old ways, Gabe… I won’t let you.” I apologize. We are one of those couples who quote lines from The Office to eachother… 🤮
