AG Pam Bondi goes to war with sanctuary city democrats

Newly-minted Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the Department of Justice is suing several New York Democrats over the state's policy allowing illegal aliens to obtain driver's licenses.

The details: Speaking to the press yesterday, flanked by members of the DOJ and an Angel Mom whose daughter was killed by an illegal alien, Bondi said:

• “We have filed charges against Kathy Hochul. We have filed charges against Leticia James and Mark Schroeder, who is with [the] DMV.”

• “This is a new DOJ, and we are taking steps to protect Americans. New York has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. It stops. It stops today.”

Green Light Laws: New York's 'Green Light Law' allowed an estimated 750,000 illegal aliens to obtain a standard driver's license.

• The law restricts the state's DMV from sharing information with ICE and CBP without a court order.

• If a court order is given, the law requires the DMV to give the illegal alien warning that ICE/CBP is targeting them.

Hunted become the hunter: The Trump DOJ is now suing New York Attorney General Letitia James — the same woman who brought frivolous lawsuits against Trump during the lead-up to the 2024 election.

Angel mom: Bondi was joined by Tammy Nobles, whose 20-year-old daughter Kayla was killed in Maryland in 2022 by an illegal alien from El Salvador.

• Nobles said her daughter’s murderer "viciously strangled her, raped her, and left her on the floor like trash, and robbed her of $6."

• Nobles revealed the Biden HHS assessed him as "a nice boy" who showed "age-appropriate behavior."

Back up: Earlier this month, Bondi sued the state of Illinois over its sanctuary city policies, and she warned other states that they could be next.

What do voters think? A recent poll found that 66% of Americans support deporting illegal aliens.

Trump and Putin break the ice

President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a “highly productive” call concerning the Ukraine war and other geopolitical topics — taking a giant step towards peace.

The details: Trump outlined his call with Putin in a lengthy Truth Social post. According to Trump, the discussion centered around ending the war in Ukraine, however the pair also discussed artificial intelligence, energy production, the Middle East, and the power of the US dollar.

Back up: The call takes place less than 24 hours after Russia released American prisoner Marc Fogel, who had been detained in 2022 for possessing medical marijuana that was prescribed to him in the U.S. The Biden regime showed little political will to bring him home.

Ending the war in Ukraine: Trump said both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed a desire to end the war in separate phone calls Wednesday.

• Zelenskyy took to X after speaking with Trump and shared: “We believe that America’s strength, together with Ukraine and all our partners, is enough to push Russia to peace.”

• Trump says U.S. negotiations will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, national security adviser Michael Waltz, and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.

What happens next? In the short term, Trump says he and Putin discussed "getting a ceasefire in the not-too-distant future." The two leaders will “probably” meet soon in person in Saudi Arabia.

Big picture: Trump ran on ending the war in Ukraine. For now, at least directionally, he is moving toward keeping his promise.

The last word goes to President Trump who said: "I think we're on the way to getting peace. I think President Putin wants peace, President Zelenskiy wants peace and I want peace. I just want to see people stop getting killed.”
