Wake Up Right - February 28, 2025

Happy Friday, folks! Today, Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit President Trump at the White House, where the two are expected to formally sign an agreement over the U.S.’s future involvement in Ukraine. However, the exact details are still not public.

But the real question on my mind is… Will Zelensky show up in his green pajamas or will he show an ounce of respect and put a suit on?

Supreme Court hits back against rogue judge

The U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) froze a Biden-appointed judge's ruling that would have forced President Donald Trump to release $2 billion in foreign aid that his administration has frozen.

Back up: Two weeks ago, D.C. District Judge Amir Ali ruled in favor of several global health nonprofits that sued the Trump administration over its decision to pause foreign aid for 90 days while a review was conducted to determine whether they were in the United States’ national interest.

The details: This week, Chief Justice John Roberts put an “administrative stay” on the lower court's order for Trump to release the foreign aid.

  • Note: This action does not nullify the lower court's ruling, but it does prevent Trump from having to follow it. In the meantime, SCOTUS will consider the constitutionality of Ali’s ruling.

Zoom out: Since taking office, the left has repeatedly used lawfare against Trump. Activist judges across the country have issued nationwide injunctions against his orders — including cutting the federal budget, deconstructing transgender policies, and more.

This is, unfortunately, nothing new… 👇️

Historical precedence: In Trump’s first term, he was targeted with 64 nationwide injunctions. By comparison, Joe Biden only faced 14, and Barack Obama received 12.

What can be done? House Republicans have unveiled articles of impeachment against three of the judicial activists, including Judge Ali, who they accuse of marginalizing “the President’s Article II authority, which vests power to conduct foreign policy.”

The last word goes to Rep. Andy Ogles, who said in a video posted to X:

  • “James Madison, Founding Father, warned us about an overactive — a too powerful, quite frankly — a woke judiciary, and we see it coming to pass… We’re going to hold these judges accountable.

Hopefully, the Supreme Court’s action this week is a sign that it will not hesitate to slap down judicial activists using their power to unconstitutionally subvert the will of the American people.

AG Bondi fumbles the Epstein file handoff

Attorney General Pam Bondi released a handful of files on infamous child rapist Jeffrey Epstein which did not live up to the hype she’s spent the past week cultivating.

The hype: One week ago, newly-minted AG Pam Bondi told Fox News’ Jesse Watters that she had the Epstein files "sitting on my desk right now to review."

  • On Wednesday, Bondi doubled down, telling Watters she would release "a lot of flight logs, a lot of names, a lot of information" on Thursday [yesterday] that she described as "pretty sick."

The handoff: Yesterday, a group of conservative influencers were at the White House for strategy sessions with Vice President JD Vance, FBI Director Kash Patel, and others when they were reportedly surprised to learn they would be given a binder titled “The Epstein Files: Phase 1.

  • While they left the White House, the press photographed them with the files, adding more intrigue to the release.

  • Shortly after, the Department of Justice released the Phase 1 documents online.

The fumble: To our displeasure, the influencers soon learned that the ‘Phase 1” files were essentially all records that had been previously released to the public. There was virtually no new information contained in this much-anticipated release.

  • Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, who has been a vocal advocate for the release, took to X to voice her displeasure, writing: “THIS IS NOT WHAT WE OR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ASKED FOR. GET US THE INFORMATION WE ASKED FOR.”

An 11th-hour twist: Shortly after the fumble, AG Bondi released a letter she had sent to FBI Director Kash Patel, accusing agents in the New York field office of withholding thousands of pages of Epstein documents that she vowed to make public. Part of the letter read:

  • "Late yesterday, I learned from a source that the FBI Field Office in New York was in possession of thousands of pages [which had not been handed over].”

Kash responds: In a post on X, FBI Director Patel wrote: “There will be no cover-ups, no missing documents, and no stone left unturned — and anyone from the prior or current Bureau who undermines this will be swiftly pursued. If there are gaps, we will find them. If records have been hidden, we will uncover them. And we will bring everything we find to the DOJ to be fully assessed and transparently disseminated to the American people as it should be.”

Real talk from G: We must acknowledge this was not a great day for the AG. But in my honest opinion, it feels more like bad execution and a rush to deliver rather than something nefarious. And I’m confident she will ultimately deliver.
