Wake Up Right - January 20, 2025
Happy Inauguration Day, folks! I’m writing this First Word to you as I look out the window at my front lawn covered in fresh snow [which I need to shovel after hitting ‘send’]. And it feels symbolic. The dead of a cold winter is given a clean slate.
We made it through the cold winter. Together. We fought mask and vax mandates, government-sanctioned censorship, back-breaking inflation, the sexualization and gender mutilation of children, opening our borders to criminal gangs and terrorists, two conflicts that threaten world war, and a rogue Deep State that only cares about its own survival and enrichment.
But to quote President-elect Donald Trump at his inauguration rally last night: “WE WON!”
Enjoy the festivities today. Because you deserve it. Donald Trump deserves it. Our country deserves it. God bless America. 🇺🇸

Trump’s second act
At high noon today, Donald John Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States of America. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of this historic event.
The rundown: Inauguration Day ceremonies begin at 11:30 AM EST, with J.D. Vance being sworn in as Vice President, followed by Donald Trump taking the Oath of Office at noon — in accordance with the Constitution's transfer of power procedures.
✋ Hand on Bible: Trump will take the Oath with his hand on two bibles — his mother’s and President Abraham Lincoln’s.
🙏 Prayer: Franklin Graham, the son of the late evangelist Billy Graham, will lead prayers at the event.
🇺🇸 Performances: Country music mega-star Carrie Underwood will sing ‘America the Beautiful,’ and Opera singer Christopher Macchio will perform the National Anthem.
Inaugural address: Shortly after being sworn in, Trump will give his inaugural address, which usually lasts just over 15 minutes. Incoming White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt previewed it, telling Fox News:
“You're going to hear President Trump talk about how we are entering a golden age of America and how Americans' hope can be restored in this great nation.”
Location drama: Due to below-freezing temperatures, the event will be held inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda instead of outside, facing the National Mall. The last President to be sworn in indoors was Ronald Reagan in 1985. There is speculation that the event was moved indoors for security — noting the two recent assassination attempts against Trump.
Attendees: There will be a range of leaders from global politics to the business world in attendance at Trump’s inauguration:
💼 Business leaders: Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Tim Cook, Sundar Pichai, Shou Zi Chew
🇺🇸 U.S. Presidents: Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Joe Biden
🌎️ World leaders: Argentina's President Javier Milei, Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, China's VP Han Zheng
Making history: CBS News reports that a foreign leader has never attended a transfer-of-power ceremony.
But wait, there’s more: Trump will become just the second person in U.S. history to serve non-consecutive terms as president. He joins Gover Cleveland, who was the 22nd and 24th president.
200 executive orders: Trump will reportedly sign over 200 executive orders on his first day in office on issues like: border security, energy dominance, reducing costs for Americans, and ending DEI programs.
At his inauguration rally, Trump said: “You’re gonna have a lot of fun… Somebody said yesterday, ‘Sir, don’t sign so many [executive orders] in one day. Let’s do it over a period of weeks.’ I said, ‘Like hell we’re going to do it over weeks. We’re gonna sign them at the beginning.’”
Vibe shift: Unlike 2017, when the media was already swirling about the 'Russia collusion’ hoax, Trump enters office today with the wind — and the support of the American public — at his back. A new CBS News poll found that 60% of Americans are optimistic about the next four years with Trump. Notably, that optimism is 67% among young voters 18-29.

TikTok’s wild weekend
Late Saturday, TikTok users were grieving the loss of their social media app as the popular platform officially went dark. But by Sunday afternoon, access was restored thanks to an 11th hour lifeline from incoming President Donald J. Trump.
❎ Offline: On Saturday, TikTok complied with a law signed by Joe Biden mandating it either be sold to someone in the U.S. or be shut down. Users were greeted with a message that read:
“Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now. A law banning TikTok has been enacted… We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution... Please stay tuned!"
Poor governance: Early Saturday, it was confirmed that the Biden regime would not enforce the ban, leading many to believe TikTok would stay online. But Biden did not assure service providers [think Verizon, ATT] that they would not face penalties for allowing TikTok to remain on their networks, which is why the app still went dark.
✅ Online: TikTok began restoring service Sunday after Trump brought clarity to the situation. Users opening the app were once again greeted with a message which read:
“In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive. It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.”
Necessary clarity: In a post on Truth Social, Trump provided the necessary clarity needed for the app to go back online, writing:
“I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect, so that we can make a deal to protect our national security. The order will also confirm that there will be no liability for any company that helped keep TikTok from going dark before my order.”
Zoom out: After originally moving to ban TikTok during his first term in office, Trump has come around to the platform, which he believes helped fuel his overperformance with the youth vote. Trump boasts roughly 15 million followers on TikTok, and some of his videos have been viewed over 100 million times.
What happens now? TikTok is still a massive information-gathering tool controlled by the Chinese government. Trump’s order will give him 90 days to negotiate a long-term solution that protects our national security. He has proposed:
“I would like the United States to have a 50% ownership position in a joint venture. By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands and allow it to say up. Without U.S. approval, there is no Tik Tok. With our approval, it is worth hundreds of billions of dollars - maybe trillions.”
