Wake Up Right - January 22, 2025

Good morning, Wake Up Right fam! President Trump has already added his own personal touch to the Oval Office with items like a portrait of President Andrew Jackson and a bust of President Abraham Lincoln. But…

Hands down, the best customization in the Trump Oval is his Diet Coke button. 🤣 The gold button in a wooden box that was used to order Diet Coke on demand during his first term was spotted back on the Resolute Desk yesterday.

The man doesn’t drink. He doesn’t smoke. His only vices are Diet Coke and the YMCA. Enjoy, Mr. President.

Trump unveils $500 billion private investment in AI

President Donald Trump announced Stargate — a massive $500 billion private sector investment to build artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in the United States.

Keyword: Private. This is not a taxpayer-funded giveaway. The investment capital is coming from the private sector.

The details: Trump was joined at the White House by CEOs of three of the four companies collaborating on Stargate: Sam Altman (OpenAI), Larry Ellison (Oracle), and Masayoshi Son (SoftBank). The fourth partner is the United Arab Emirates' MGX.

  • Trump said the project was “the largest AI infrastructure project, by far, in history. And it's all taking place right here in America."

The plan: Stargate will begin with each company initially committing $100 billion, potentially up to $500 billion over four years.

  • In addition to the aforementioned companies, Microsoft and NVIDIA are also technology partners, per the press release.

JOBS: The project will create 100,000 American jobs. It will begin with the construction of a data center in Texas, followed by projects in other states.

No red tape: Trump vowed to clear a path for Stargate to accelerate quickly, saying:

  • "I'm gonna help a lot through emergency declarations because we have an emergency... They have to produce a lot of electricity. And we'll make it possible for them to get that production done very easily."

Zoom out: On Trump's first day back in office, he rescinded a Biden executive order that put regulations on AI.

AI arms race: The project aims to jumpstart AI innovation in the U.S. to outpace competitors — namely China, which has prioritized AI by stockpiling advanced chips, producing AI researchers, and building AI models that rival U.S. counterparts like ChatGPT.

Big picture: I know many are skeptical of AI, and rightfully so. There are limitless ways that it may have negative effects on our world. But the reality is, if we aren’t the first to harness it, our enemies will.

Let the raids begin

President Trump is wasting no time executing his border and immigration policies — with ice raids reportedly underway and efforts to seal our southern and northern border.

The raids begin: Trump’s border czar Tom Homan confirmed in an interview with Fox News yesterday that immigration raids have “started” and “ICE teams are out there as of today.”

  • Homan addressed reports that the administration halted raids in Chicago due to the plan leaking, saying it forced them to “reevaluate” their execution due to officer safety concerns but that the issue had been “addressed.”

  • Homan noted more than 700,000 criminal aliens are walking free in the country today.

Securing the border: Trump directed border patrol to shut down all entry to the United States for those seeking asylum.

  • Trump put the screws on Canada and Mexico, threatening to enact 25% tariffs on all goods they import to the U.S. if they do not make efforts to stop the flow of illegal aliens and drugs into the country.

  • Additionally, Trump designated the Mexican drug cartels as “foreign terrorist organizations.”

Zoom out: On his first day in office, Trump released several executive orders aiming to address the border:

  • Declaring a national emergency on the border: This will give Trump the necessary tools to combat the invasion.

  • Ending birthright citizenship: Many believe it has been incorrectly used to allow citizenship to the child of illegal aliens born in the U.S. - while its original intent was to guarantee citizenship to slaves. 22 Democrat states have already sued the administration over this.

  • Additionally, he ended ‘Catch and release,re-instated the ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy, and ended the CBP One app.

What do Americans think? 66% of U.S. voters say they support deporting people in the country illegally.
