Wake Up Right - January 6, 2025

Happy Insurrection Day, Wake Up Right fam. On this fourth anniversary of the January 6 riot — an event the Dems thought they could ride to re-election — it’s almost poetic that Kamala Harris, as VP, will be tasked with certifying Donald Trump as the next President of the United States.

  • Senate leader Thune: Pete Hegseth will be confirmed

  • 👴 The current Congress is the 3rd oldest since 1789

  • 🍺 62% of the U.S. adults drink alcohol, 38% abstain

  • 📉 NYPD applications dropped 55% since 2017

Biden gives Medal of Freedom to Clinton and Soros

Joe Biden spent one of the final weekends of his residency handing out medals to some of the most contemptible figures in American politics — part of a mad rush to reward as many criminals [literal criminals and those who should be] with awards and pardons before leaving office.

The details: On Saturday, Biden awarded former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and billionaire Democrat mega-donor George Soros with the Presidential Medal of Freedom — the highest civilian honor.

  • Hillary Clinton paid for the now-disproven dossier that kicked off the 2016 Russia hoax that hamstrung the first two years of Donald Trump’s first term.

  • George Soros dumped millions into local races to elect radical "progressive" prosecutors across the country whose policies led to a rise in murder and overall crime in many Democrat-run cities.

Other recipients included: Bono, Denzel Washington, Michael J. Fox, Jane Goodall, Magic Johnson, Robert F. Kennedy (RFK Jr's dad), Lionel Messi, David Rubenstein, and Anna Wintour.

Pay for play: Rubenstein has allowed Joe Biden and his family to vacation at his Nantucket estate every year since 2021.

Other awards: Last week, Biden awarded Liz Cheney and Bennie Thompson —two leaders of the January 6 Committee — the Presidential Citizens Medal, the nation’s second-highest civilian honor.

Pardon patrol: Last month Biden announced he was giving a blanket pardon to his son, Hunter. He followed that up by commuting the sentences of 37 criminals on Death Row.

Real talk from G: Biden still has two weeks left in office. I would imagine this isn’t the last spit in the face he’ll give the American people before shuffling out of the White House for good.

Trump plans to release over 1,000 J6 prisoners

President-elect Donald Trump reportedly plans to pardon over 1,000 people convicted of crimes related to the January 6 riot — even promising to do so on his “first day” in office.

Back up: More than 1,600 of Trump’s supporters have been charged with crimes related to the January 6, 2021 riot, and hundreds are currently in prison, many for simply entering the Capitol area.

The details: Trump told NBC's Kristen Welker in December: "I'm going to be acting very quickly... I'm looking first day. These people have been there — how long is it? Three, four years. They’ve been in there for years. And they’re in a filthy, disgusting place that shouldn’t even be allowed to be open."

  • Trump added: “These people have suffered. Their lives have been destroyed. And yet, in Portland, where they burned down half the city… They don’t do anything.”

Quote: On Sunday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a key Trump ally, wrote on X: "President Trump will be giving clemency, pardons and commutations, to J6’ers!!"

The scope: Trump has indicated that his administration would "look at each individual case" and focus on "non-violent" offenders.

In related news: Matthew Graves, the D.C. U.S. Attorney who ran the prosecutions of J6ers, announced last week that he will resign ahead of Trump's return to office.

The last word: Republican strategist John Feehery summed up the whole J6 spectacle best, saying: "Instead of spending time talking about issues the voters cared about, [Democrats] wasted time talking about a mostly peaceful protect that really only resonated with those who watch MSNBC."
