Wake Up Right - July 3, 2025

Good morning, folks! As I write this, at 7 AM EST, the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ is reportedly inches away from the finish line. President Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson were whipping votes until 3 in the morning. And while it’s not official – it looks like they’re going to hit the 4th of July deadline.
Housekeeping: There will be no Wake Up Right newsletter tomorrow. I’d like to wish all of the Wake Up Right fam a happy and safe Independence Day.
🇺🇸 Celebrations: President Trump is kicking off the Independence Day celebrations tonight with a campaign style speech at the Iowa State Fiargrounds.

Obama Judge snubs Supreme Court, issues nationwide ruling on Trump asylum crackdown

A federal judge in Washington, D.C., has blocked President Trump’s executive order halting most asylum claims at the southern border – just days after the Supreme Court ruled that judges cannot issue nationwide injunctions.
Back up: On Trump's first day in office, he issued a proclamation declaring an "invasion" on the southern border – triggering emergency authority under the Constitution, and allowing him to suspend physical entry and block asylum claims.
The details: Judge Randolph Moss, an Obama appointee, ruled that Trump’s asylum proclamation exceeded presidential authority and said he was trying to create “an alternative immigration system.”
Hold up: Didn’t the Supreme Court rule last week that federal judges can’t issue nationwide injunctions against the president’s orders?
Yes – but this judge is playing cute with the law. Instead of a nationwide injunction, he granted class-action status to all current and future illegal aliens who might face deportation, effectively achieving the same result.
What’s the difference? Nationwide injunctions apply to all persons, including people not involved in the lawsuit, nationwide. Class-action applies to defined class members [all illegal aliens in this case].
Justice Alito saw this coming: He wrote a concurrence to the Supreme Court opinion that warned: “[D]district courts should not view today’s decision as an invitation to certify nationwide classes without scrupulous adherence to the rigors of Rule 23.”
Note the timing: This judge waited until after the Supreme Court had gone on its summer recess to issue this ruling.
Attorney General Pam Bondi reacted to the ruling, writing on X:
“A rogue district court judge is already trying to circumvent the Supreme Court’s recent ruling against nationwide injunctions. The American people see right through this. Our attorneys @thejusticedept will fight this unconstitutional power grab as @POTUS continues to secure our border.”
What happens next? The judge’s ruling is paused for 14 days, giving the Trump administration time to appeal. But the case goes to the D.C. Circuit, stacked with Obama and Biden-appointed judges. An emergency appeal to the Supreme Court is likely.
Zoom out: Illegal immigration has effectively halted since Trump took office. June saw just 6,070 border crossings – the lowest number ever recorded – and zero were released into the U.S.
Big picture: The cornerstone of Trump’s 2024 campaign was shutting down the southern border and deporting illegal aliens who, under the Biden regime, were allowed to wreak havoc in American communities. This judge is now attempting to unilaterally upend those efforts.

A few months ago, I was at a butcher in my neighborhood and saw a diagram of a cow, with all the cuts of meat labeled. And that gave me an idea for a t-shirt:
DOGE Butcher Shop — but instead of the cow, we use a pig. And the cuts of meat in the diagram represent all the waste, fraud, and abuse being butchered by the Trump admin.
Over the last few weeks, I worked with a really talented graphic designer who brought it to life. And on Friday I got a sample in the mail and I’m happy to say, it came out better than I’d hoped.
Also, my wife told me I had to mention that the t-shirt it’s printed on is Comfort Colors. Apparently, they’re well-known for high-quality materials. I just chose them because they are printed in the U.S. and made with 100 U.S. cotton.
