U.S. hammers Iran after Apache downing
The United States struck Iranian military sites near the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday in retaliation for Iran's downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter – an escalation that threatens the ceasefire deal President Donald Trump said was just days away.
The details: Trump ordered the strikes, telling ABC News they would be "very powerful," and U.S. Central Command called the operation a "proportional response."
🚀 The U.S. struck Iranian air defense systems, ground control stations, and surveillance radar near the strait.
📺 Iranian state media reported explosions in Hormozgan province, including on Qeshm Island.
🕔 The strikes began around 5 p.m. ET and wrapped roughly four hours later.
Back up: Trump confirmed an Iranian drone downed the U.S. Apache over Hormuz Monday night. Both pilots survived and were pulled from the water by a Navy Corsair sea drone – a military first.
Tehran responds: Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it launched a drone strike on the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters, though there are no confirmed casualties or damage. Jordan said it intercepted five Iranian missiles, and Kuwait reported engaging hostile aerial targets.
The numbers: Oil prices climbed about 1% after the new U.S. strikes on Iran.

Belfast riots following attempted beheading by migrant
Belfast descended into chaos Tuesday as anti-migration riots tore through the city – with buses torched and homes set ablaze – a day after a Sudanese migrant was arrested in a stomach-turning attempted beheading caught on video.
The details: Police arrested a man in his 30s from Sudan after footage showed an attacker pinning a man down and repeatedly stabbing him in the face and neck. He's been charged with attempted murder.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Crowds chanted "terrorist scum off our streets," with some targeting properties housing migrants.
Rioters torched a city bus, a police car, and multiple vehicles, forcing families to flee burning homes in East Belfast.
Zoom out: The attacker isn't a UK native [I know, shocker…]. He's a migrant from Sudan who was given legal refugee status in 2023 – reportedly after slipping into the country through Ireland, where there's no hard border check between the two.
Back up: Last week, a court gave life to Vickrum Digwa, a Sikh man who stabbed 18-year-old Henry Nowak to death in Southampton with a ceremonial dagger – then claimed racism to police, who cuffed the dying victim while the killer walked free at the scene.
The last word goes to outspoken anti-migration advocate Tommy Robinson, who wrote on X: "Britain is at [a] breaking point and the government have turned their backs on the people.”

Out in the hot sun in August summers my dad would tell me, "In this country you have endless opportunities. I left my family and country so that you could have a better future. You can work with your brain or your back but the choice is yours.”
I watched my dad become a citizen in the 1980's and fly an American flag proudly. He taught me the importance of voting and told me of stories of a corrupt government in his homeland. He always reminded that I was an American and we live in a country where its people have a vote.
My dad lived to be 86, I became a nurse and cared for him in his final years. His words still ring loud today and I will always be proud to be an American. 🇺🇸
