Wake Up Right - June 16, 2025

Sa

Welcome back, folks, and I hope all the dads in the Wake Up Right fam had a very Happy Father’s Day.

This year, I was feeling especially reflective and thought about a memory I have from childhood, where my dad, who worked long hours on his feet as a chef, would take his shoes off at the end of the day and say, “That’s the best feeling in the world.”

And I remember thinking, “That’s such a weird thing to say. What’s the big deal about taking your shoes off?”

It’s a simple memory that, now, I appreciate. So here’s to all the hardworking dads: I hope you all got to kick your shoes off this weekend and relax with your families.

Democrats’ ‘No Kings’ protests overshadowed by left-wing domestic terrorism

A nationwide wave of “No Kings” protests meant to challenge authoritarianism was overshadowed by deadly violence and left-wing extremism over the weekend.

Zoom out: On Saturday, leftists organized events across 2,000 cities — dubbed "No Kings" — to protest President Trump, his 250th Army anniversary parade, and his policies.

The details: Overshadowing the protest were several violent events linked to “No Kings,” most notably: a shooting at the Salt Lake City protest and a homicidal Democrat who assassinated two Minnesota lawmakers.

Salt Lake City shooting: An ANTIFA member named Artuor Gamboa was charged with murder after he showed up at the Utah "No Kings" protest, running towards the crowd with an AR-15-style rifle.

  • Gamboa, ironically, did not shoot anyone. But a designated "peacekeeper" at the event opened fire on him with a handgun, accidentally shooting a bystander, Arthur Ah loo, who was killed.

  • Gamboa was wounded and arrested for murder for inciting the events.

  • Gamboa's Facebook page showed he was radicalized by left-wing ideology, sharing pro-ANTIFA content and was an active BLM supporter during the 2020 riots.

Minnesota assassination: Early Saturday morning, Vance Luther Boelter assassinated Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband and attempted to kill State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife in their homes.

  • Boelter allegedly posed as law enforcement, wearing a mask and police-style uniform during the early Saturday attacks.

  • Boelter is a former appointee of Democrat Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

  • Investigators found “No Kings” protest flyers in his vehicle.

  • Notably, this shooting took place a few days after Speaker Hortman voted with Republicans to stop giving free healthcare to illegal aliens.

What the Trump administration is saying: Attorney General Pam Bondi said, "This horrific violence will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

More chaos: Several Democrat-run cities saw their protests turn into riots, namely Seattle, where anarchists surrounded an ICE facility and launched rocks and fireworks at law enforcement.

In stark contrast: President Trump celebrated the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary with a patriotic military parade in Washington, D.C., where he celebrated “the greatest, fiercest, and bravest fighting force ever to stride the face of this Earth, the United States Army.”

In related news: Following a weekend that continued to see riots carried out in opposition to ICE deportations in cities like Los Angeles, Seattle, and New York, President Trump issued a decree on Truth Social, doubling down on deportation efforts, writing:

  • “…ICE Officers are herewith ordered, by notice of this TRUTH, to do all in their power to achieve the very important goal of delivering the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History. In order to achieve this, we must expand efforts to detain and deport Illegal Aliens in America’s largest Cities, such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York, where Millions upon Millions of Illegal Aliens reside. These, and other such Cities, are the core of the Democrat Power Center, where they use Illegal Aliens to expand their Voter Base, cheat in Elections, and grow the Welfare State, robbing good paying Jobs and Benefits from Hardworking American Citizens…”

Israel and Iran continue strikes, threatening to draw in the U.S.

The conflict between Israel and Iran intensified throughout the weekend, with both sides lobbing hundreds of missiles at each other, leaving hundreds dead — all the while threatening to draw the United States into another war in the Middle East.

The details: Israeli airstrikes targeting nuclear and military facilities in Iran have killed at least 200 people. Iran's missile strikes have mostly been thwarted by air defense systems, but have occasionally penetrated the Iron Dome, killing at least 10 Israelis so far.

What is the U.S. doing? American air defense systems and a Navy destroyer helped Israel shoot down incoming ballistic missiles over the weekend. The U.S. is also shifting military resources, including ships, from Asia to the Middle East as a deterrent to Iranian strikes.

  • Trump vetoes: According to reports, President Trump vetoed Israel's plan to assassinate Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

What Israel wants from the U.S.: According to a report from Axios, Israel has asked the Trump administration to join the war against Iran in order to eliminate its nuclear program by using bunker buster bombs and American bombers to destroy a deeply fortified Iranian nuclear site, which Israel lacks the equipment to do itself.

  • Sources told Axios the White House is not considering joining the war.

What is Trump saying publicly? Last night, the President posted the following on Truth Social:

  • “Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal… Many calls and meetings now taking place… MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!

Related: Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone over the weekend, and following their call, all Russian citizens were told to evacuate from Iran. Both presidents are angling for a nuclear deal in Iran. Was this evacuation a coordinated tactic to scare Iran? Or did Trump want him of an imminent large-scale attack?

Big picture: President Trump ran on a platform of keeping American troops out of forever wars, and many in his base are vehemently opposed to intervention in this conflict. But he has never been shy about using U.S. military might when he believes it’s necessary.

A few months ago, I was at a butcher in my neighborhood and saw a diagram of a cow, with all the cuts of meat labeled. And that gave me an idea for a t-shirt:

DOGE Butcher Shop — but instead of the cow, we use a pig. And the cuts of meat in the diagram represent all the waste, fraud, and abuse being butchered by the Trump admin.

Over the last few weeks, I worked with a really talented graphic designer who brought it to life. And on Friday I got a sample in the mail and I’m happy to say, it came out better than I’d hoped.

Also, my wife told me I had to mention that the t-shirt it’s printed on is Comfort Colors. Apparently, they’re well-known for high-quality materials. I just chose them because they are printed in the U.S. and made with 100 U.S. cotton.
