Wake Up Right - June 18, 2025

`

Good morning, Wake Up Right fam! Wanna start your day with a good laugh?
Back up: In 2024, Joe Biden told the American people, "The only reason the border is not secure is Donald Trump."
Fast forward: May’s border numbers just dropped. There were ZERO illegal aliens released into the United States for the month. For perspective, Joe Biden released 64,000 in May 2024.
I guess Joe Biden was lying to the American people. Shocker.

Blue-collar wages are up

Real wages for blue-collar workers surged in the first five months of President Donald Trump’s second term — the largest increase under any administration since 1969.
The details: According to data from the U.S. Treasury, non-supervisory, blue-collar wages are up 1.7–2% since January.
Reversing course: It’s a sharp reversal from the early Biden years, when inflation outpaced earnings and blue-collar wages fell by 1.7%.
How did this happen? Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent credits falling inflation and tighter labor markets driven by:
Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration forced businesses to pay American workers.
Trump’s tariffs have led to bolstered U.S. manufacturing.
Historical context: The last time blue-collar wage increases were above one percent came during the first Trump term (1.3%). No other president has achieved this for the working class in over 50 years.
Party shift: Trump has reshaped the GOP into a party for the working class. In 2024, 56% of non-college voters (including all races) chose Trump vs. 42% for Kamala.
Big picture: The Trump doctrine is simple: Less cheap labor in the U.S. and abroad = more prosperity for American workers. In five short months, that motto is paying dividends for blue-collar workers.

Trump trusts his gut on ICE raids

President Donald Trump is back in the driver’s seat on mass deportations after briefly flirting with the idea of shielding farms and hotels from ICE raids.
Back up: Last week, reports indicated a guidance email from ICE’s Tatum King instructed agents to stop conducting raids on farms, hotels, and restaurants.
This came after Trump told reporters last week: “Farmers are being hurt badly. They have very good workers who have worked for them for 20 years. They’re not citizens, but they’ve turned out to be great."
Fast forward: On Monday, the administration reversed course, with Assistant Secretary for DHS Tricia McLaughlin saying:
“There will be no safe spaces for industries who harbor violent criminals or purposely try to undermine ICE’s efforts.”
“Worksite enforcement remains a cornerstone of our efforts to safeguard public safety, national security and economic stability.”
Zoom out: Between these two events, Trump put out a post on Truth Social instructing ICE to “do all in their power to achieve the very important goal of delivering the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History.”
Targeting blue cities: His Truth instructed ICE to “expand efforts to detain and deport Illegal Aliens in America’s largest Cities, such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York, where Millions upon Millions of Illegal Aliens reside.”
Big picture: Trump followed his gut. His initial pullback was likely in response to American businesses lobbying him to take it easy on their illegal workers. But after considering it for a few days, he wasn't shy about reversing course.

Shop the Wake Up Right store!

A few months ago, I was at a butcher in my neighborhood and saw a diagram of a cow, with all the cuts of meat labeled. And that gave me an idea for a t-shirt:
DOGE Butcher Shop — but instead of the cow, we use a pig. And the cuts of meat in the diagram represent all the waste, fraud, and abuse being butchered by the Trump admin.
Over the last few weeks, I worked with a really talented graphic designer who brought it to life. And on Friday I got a sample in the mail and I’m happy to say, it came out better than I’d hoped.
Also, my wife told me I had to mention that the t-shirt it’s printed on is Comfort Colors. Apparently, they’re well-known for high-quality materials. I just chose them because they are printed in the U.S. and made with 100 U.S. cotton.
