Welcome back, Wake Up Right fam! Slow news weekend, right…? 🤭 I’m starting to think Trump likes making headlines on Saturday and Sunday to force the lib D.C. journalists to have to work on their day off…
Make sure to answer the poll down below. I want to hear your thoughts on Trump’s strike on Iran.

Trump, buster of bunkers

President Donald Trump announced late Saturday that the U.S. conducted covert airstrikes on three major Iranian nuclear facilities.
The details: Trump broke the news in a Truth Social post, saying the U.S. “completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran.”
How it went down: Operation Midnight Hammer used seven B-2 stealth bombers to fly a covert 18-hour mission from Mirrouri carrying approximately 420,000lb of explosives, including 14 GBY-57 "bunker busters."
💣️ Step 1: At roughly 2:10 AM Tehran time [6:40 PM EST], the first bomber dropped a pair of bunker busters on the prize target: the deeply-buried Fordo nuclear site. In total, 14 bombs were spread across Fordo and a uranium enrichment site in Natanz.
🚀 Step 2: As the B-2s entered Iran, a U.S. submarine in the region launched dozens of Tomahawk cruise missiles at key targets, including the Isfahan nuclear site.
Trump reacts: In an address to the nation on Saturday night, Trump said: “I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated.”
Historic: This was the first time the GBY-57 bunker busters were ever used in combat. They're designed to target heavily fortified facilities by burrowing deep underground before detonating.
Decoys and deception: On Thursday, less than 48 hours before the mission, Trump announced that he would make a decision on U.S. actions in Iran within “two weeks.” On Saturday, one group of B-2s acted as decoys, traveling west towards the U.S. air base in Guam while the actual bombers quietly traveled east.
Assessing the damage: The United Nations' atomic-agency chief said the attacks on the Fordow enrichment site likely caused "very significant damage." However, Iranian leaders have sought to downplay the damage, with one calling the damage “superficial.”
How’d we get here? The U.S. stepped in because Israel lacked the ability to penetrate the deep, reinforced Fordo facility.
Another Middle Eastern war? No. The administration has made it pretty clear they see this as a targeted strike at Iran’s nuclear capabilities — not the opening salvo in a new, long Middle Eastern conflict. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Vice President J.D. Vance told reporters on Sunday:
Hegseth: “This mission was not and has not been about regime change.”
Vance: We have "no interest" in a "protracted conflict.”
Iran’s response: Iran's parliament voted Sunday to close the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil shipping lane which sits along its west coast. However, many industry experts say the move would mostly hurt Terhan and its allies in Asia [namely China] since the U.S. only receives a small fraction of its oil from the waterway.
The regime knows this would do little to hurt U.S. oil supplies, but it will likely drive up oil prices.
Domestic politics: The Democrats were mostly apoplectic, with Rep. AOC calling for Trump’s impeachment. Senator John Fetterman was a lone voice on the left, calling the bombings “the correct move.”
Republican lawmakers mostly stood behind Trump. However, Rep. Thomas Massie called the bombing “not Constitutional,” suggesting it required approval by Congress.
What happens next? The ball is in Iran’s court. If they choose the most aggressive response [bombing U.S. bases in the region], they risk Trump escalating attacks, which he has already threatened, saying “ANY RETALIATION BY IRAN… WILL BE MET WITH FORCE FAR GREATER THAN WHAT WAS WITNESSED TONIGHT [Saturday].”
…or peace: Trump also encouraged Iran to “now make peace.” However, there have been no indication that Tehran is interested yet.
Real talk from G: This hasn’t been a universally popular move on the MAGA right. A good chunk of President Trump’s supporters are upset about this move after he campaigned on ending wars, not starting them. Where do I stand? I’ve been around long enough to remember April 2017 when Trump dropped a MOAB [Mother of all Bombs] on Afghanistan, and everyone’s hair was on fire because he was going to get us into WWIII. Fast-forward to today, and his first term is cheered for bringing peace through strength. As it stands, I don’t see this recent bombing as anything more than what we saw in 2017. I would encourage everyone to try not to give in to hysterical reactions [on both sides]. And resist the urge to set your hair ablaze.

A few months ago, I was at a butcher in my neighborhood and saw a diagram of a cow, with all the cuts of meat labeled. And that gave me an idea for a t-shirt:
DOGE Butcher Shop — but instead of the cow, we use a pig. And the cuts of meat in the diagram represent all the waste, fraud, and abuse being butchered by the Trump admin.
Over the last few weeks, I worked with a really talented graphic designer who brought it to life. And on Friday I got a sample in the mail and I’m happy to say, it came out better than I’d hoped.
Also, my wife told me I had to mention that the t-shirt it’s printed on is Comfort Colors. Apparently, they’re well-known for high-quality materials. I just chose them because they are printed in the U.S. and made with 100 U.S. cotton.
