Wake Up Right - June 5, 2025

Good morning, Wake Up Right fam! In case you needed another reason to support President Trump’s efforts to defund PBS…

Beloved children’s show Sesame Street weighed into the culture wars this week, posting about Pride Month on X:

Is it appropriate for children’s shows to be celebrating sexual ideology? How about we let Big Bird and Elmo stick to the ABCs?

Travel ban 2.0

President Donald Trump signed a proclamation restricting immigration from nearly 20 countries deemed high-risk due to terrorism ties and visa overstays.

The details: Trump's proclamation includes 19 countries - twelve with a full ban and seven with partial bans.

  • Full ban: Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen

  • Partial ban: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, Venezuela

Why? When Trump returned to office in January, he issued Executive Order 14161, which ordered U.S. agencies to assess security risks from high-risk nations. They found that the 19 banned countries have:

  • large-scale presence of terrorists

  • high rates of visa overstays

  • an inability to verify identities

  • poor record-keeping of criminal histories

Some exemptions: The order carves out some exemptions for green card holders, existing visa holders, and national interest cases.

Zoom out: In a video message announcing the travel ban, Trump cited the recent terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado, by an illegal alien who overstayed his visa in 2023.

Real talk from G: Trump also said, "We will not let what happened in Europe happen in America." What happened in Europe? Mass, unvetted migration from the Middle East and Africa has led to daily occurrences of stabbings, vehicular homicide, and rape by foreigners.

You voted: Trump or Elon Musk

In yesterday’s newsletter, I asked who you supported in the unofficial battle between President Trump and Elon Musk over the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ and as usual, you did not disappoint.

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Trump (388)

🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨⬜️ Musk (346)

Trump: “DJT is all about the Big Picture - in politics it is always about compromise, but take the win when you can get it!!!”

Elon: “ I think we all know what it's like to do really good work for the ‘company’ only for them to turn around and mess it all up. I feel for Elon.”

Elon: “While I am in favor of many things in the bill, I think Musk is right in the need to rein in spending excesses in it. It’s time we address the blank check mentality of Congress and be more fiscally responsible.”

Trump: “In current US politics, you have to take the good with the bad, and it's unrealistic or maybe idealistic to think the GOP could have passed a ‘perfect’ bill that makes huge cuts to spending AND codifies Trump's campaign policies in one shot.”

Trump: “Trump knows what it takes to get the economy moving. This bill would do that. The DOGE cuts will come. It’s a process.”

Elon: “Too much RINO pork in this bill. Cutbacks in programs should be immediate, not 2 or 3 years from now.”

Trump: “This bill has what he promised and campaigned on. The cuts and the tariff revenue are coming, but get this bill through first. I trust that Trump will push for further cuts and changes in the future.”

Elon: “The time is now to make the tough decisions and necessary budget cuts to right the American financial ship for the benefit of our children.”

Elon: “The borrower is a slave to the lender.”

Trump: “It takes money to make money. Trump’s trying to make some needed changes now and has another three and a half years to cut waste.”

A few months ago, I was at a butcher in my neighborhood and saw a diagram of a cow, with all the cuts of meat labeled. And that gave me an idea for a t-shirt:

DOGE Butcher Shop — but instead of the cow, we use a pig. And the cuts of meat in the diagram represent all the waste, fraud, and abuse being butchered by the Trump admin.

Over the last few weeks, I worked with a really talented graphic designer who brought it to life. And on Friday I got a sample in the mail and I’m happy to say, it came out better than I’d hoped.

Also, my wife told me I had to mention that the t-shirt it’s printed on is Comfort Colors. Apparently, they’re well-known for high-quality materials. I just chose them because they are printed in the U.S. and made with 100 U.S. cotton.
