Farmer Bill’s Meat Snacks

Do you like jerky? Then you will love biltong.
Jerky is tough and dry. But biltong has marbling like a ribeye steak and is super tender.
How? It's air-dried, unlike jerky, which is cooked. And the air-drying process gives it 30% more protein per ounce than jerky.
Why I recommend Farmer Bill’s: It’s a rancher-owned company, sourcing beef and bison from the grasslands of South Dakota. Their biltong is:
🐮 Grass-fed, grass-finished
💪 High-protein snack
🇺🇸 100% American beef
🚫 No nitrates
🚫 No sugar
🚫 No processed ingredients
Translation: clean, simple, high-protein meat snacks you’ll actually crave.

First new U.S. refinery in half-century

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that a massive new oil refinery will be built in Brownsville, Texas – the first new refinery constructed in the United States in nearly half a century.
The details: The project, led by America First Refining (AFR), will be located at the Port of Brownsville in a deep-water foreign trade zone designed for large-scale energy production and exports.
The refinery is designed to process 100% U.S. light shale oil, reducing reliance on imported crude.
AFR plans to process 60 million barrels of American oil annually once the facility is operational.
Timeline: Construction is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026.
Jobs: AFR says the refinery will create thousands of construction jobs and permanent positions, with wages expected to exceed industry averages.
Not all crude oil is created equal: Light shale oil – the kind produced in the U.S. – is thinner and easier to refine into gasoline and diesel. Heavy crude is thicker, higher in sulfur, and requires more complex refineries to process.
Why it matters: The U.S. currently exports large amounts of crude but lacks refining capacity designed for light shale oil.
The last word goes to President Trump, who applauded the move on Truth Social, writing:
“A new Refinery at the Port of Brownsville, will fuel U.S. Markets, strengthen our National Security, boost American Energy production, deliver Billions of Dollars in Economic impact, and will be THE CLEANEST REFINERY IN THE WORLD. It will power Global Exports, and bring THOUSANDS of long overdue Jobs and Growth to a Region that deserves it. This is what AMERICAN ENERGY DOMINANCE looks like. AMERICA FIRST, ALWAYS!”

Trump cancels Biden’s funding for LGBTQ+ cartoons

The Trump administration has canceled $120,000 in federal humanities grants tied to LGBTQ-themed comics research and “multiethnic” literary studies – part of a broader push to roll back diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs funded by taxpayers.
The details: The grants were issued by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) during the final months of the Biden administration but were terminated in April 2025.
A $60,000 grant awarded to University of Florida professor Margaret Alice Galvan funded a research project titled “Comics in Movement,” examining LGBTQ cartoonists in the 1980s and 1990s.
Another $60,000 grant went to San José State University professor Maite Urcaregui for a book project exploring race, citizenship, and political identity in “multiethnic graphic literature.”
Zoom out: The NEH has canceled more than 1,200 grants as part of Trump’s restructuring of federal humanities funding away from “extreme ideologies based on race or gender.”
The policy shift: The move reflects the Trump administration’s policy to reduce federal support for DEI initiatives across government. Other recent actions include:
reviewing DEI programs tied to Smithsonian funding
cutting university research grants tied to DEI initiatives
redirecting federal grants previously used for transgender and DEI programs toward law enforcement resources
The big picture: The administration says the changes are intended to refocus taxpayer-funded cultural programs on scholarship tied to American history, civics, and national heritage.
