Good morning, Wake Up Right fam! Wow, it feels good to say that again.

Some of you may have noticed that this is the first newsletter since December 3, when I pulled an Irish exit and vanished without saying goodbye.

The reason was simple: my newborn son deserved my full attention.

As you all know, Wake Up Right isn’t my career. I wake up at 4 AM to put this together before going to work. But with the added responsibilities of newborn fatherhood, there just weren’t enough hours in the day to do it all.

So what changed?

For one, my son’s sleep schedule. I’m proud to report he’s starting to sleep through most of the night. That – paired with my wife graciously taking the second shift when he does wake up – gives me the window I need to get back to doing what I love: starting my mornings with you.

To everyone who reached out concerned about my wellbeing, I truly appreciate you and I’m sorry if I worried you.

And of all days to step back into the game, I picked this one. After everything that went down this weekend, we’ve got a lot to cover. Let’s get to work.

Operation Epic Fury

Over the weekend, the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes inside Iran – targeting missile infrastructure, nuclear-linked facilities, and senior leadership that included the “Supreme Leader” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The details: The strikes, dubbed Operation Epic Fury, began around 1 a.m. EST on Saturday with the U.S. firing Tomahawk cruise missiles and using HIMARS rocket systems to target Iranian military infrastructure. Israel conducted the air offensive, using fighter jets to strike roughly 500 military targets, focusing on taking out senior leaders.

  • On Saturday night, U.S. B-2 stealth bombers dropped 2,000lb bombs on Iran's deeply-buried ballistic missile sites.

  • On Sunday, the U.S. struck and sank multiple Iranian navy vessels.

Supremely dead: Iranian state media and U.S. officials confirmed that the "Supreme Leader" was killed in his office during the early Saturday strikes.

  • President Trump weighed in on Truth Social, writing: “Khamenei, one of the most evil people in History, is dead” and called it justice for people across the world, “killed or mutilated by [him] and his gang of bloodthirsty THUGS.”

  • Roughly 40 of Iran’s top leaders have been killed since strikes began.

Zoom out: In recent weeks, the Iranian regime has slaughtered tens of thousands of its own citizens who had assembled in the streets to protest their theocratic leaders.

Iranian response: Within hours, Iran launched waves of missiles and drones at Israeli territory and U.S. military assets across the Middle East, tragically resulting in the first loss of American lives – three servicemembers in Kuwait.

What the left is saying: Aside from a few exceptions, Democrats uniformly condemned the operation – despite the tens of thousands of civilians being slaughtered by the Iranian regime.

  • Rep AOC issued a statement calling it "unlawful" and "unnecessary."

  • NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani called it "an illegal war of aggression."

What the right is saying: Most, like Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, support the action, saying Iran "chose arrogance, defiance, and continued aggression" while Trump tried to negotiate peace. However, there is a large portion of the party that opposes the strikes.

  • Rep. Thomas Massie wrote on X: "I am opposed to this War. This is not 'America First.'... The Constitution requires a vote, and your Representative needs to be on record as opposing or supporting this war."

  • Nick Fuentes, the controversial right-wing online figure who has risen to mainstream notoriety while I was on hiatus, took to X to write: "This is a war of aggression for Israel. Americans will die in terrorist attacks and in missile strikes so that Israel can expand its borders in every direction. Trump, Vance, and Rubio sold us out."

Is Massie right? No. The War Powers Resolution of 1973 requires the President to notify Congress within 48 hours of sending U.S. forces into action. According to reports, Trump notified Congress prior to the strikes.

Is Nick Fuentes right? It’s true that this action does further Israel’s goals of toppling the Iranian regime. But as the old adage goes: correlation does not imply causation. Despite this online sentiment that “Trump is owned by Israel,” there’s no shortage of legitimate justification for him to be moved to use U.S. military action against Iran [and you don’t have to agree with them].

Zoom way, WAY out: 89% of Iran’s oil is purchased by China. Up to 80% of Venezuela’s oil is bought by China. Beijing depends on cheap energy from these outcasted regimes to fuel its geopolitical ambitions. Trump took out both countries’ leaders in a period of two months.

Timeline: President Trump says this operation should be expected to take days, if not weeks.

Real talk from G: This is a personal anecdote. I’m 50% Lebanese - my dad was born in Lebanon. On Friday, we were talking, and he told me how “Trump messed up” by not following through on his threat to take action if Iran killed its protestors. He’s a Christian who wants to see Hezbollah [Iran’s proxy terror group in Lebanon] wiped off the map and out of his homeland. Less than 24 hours later, the “Supreme Leader” was dead, and I called my dad, who was ecstatic and hopeful.

Austin killer wore ‘Property of Allah’ hoodie

A mass shooting in downtown Austin left 2 dead and 14 injured early Sunday – and investigators say the suspect’s clothing and recovered materials point to Islamic terrorism.

The details: The gunman was identified as Ndiaga Diagne, a Senegal-born, naturalized U.S. citizen. Police say he circled the block near Buford’s bar on West Sixth Street around 2 a.m., activated his hazard lights, then opened fire from an SUV before continuing the attack on foot with both a handgun and a rifle.

  • Officers already stationed nearby took action within moments and fatally shot him before he entered the bar.

  • Of the 14 wounded, three are in critical condition.

The gunman: Diagne wore a hoodie reading “Property of Allah,” along with an undershirt bearing an Iranian flag. A Quran and other religious materials were recovered from his vehicle.

  • He was naturalized in 2013 under then-President Obama, despite several arrests in New York and Texas.

What happens next? The FBI has taken the lead on the investigation, citing a “potential nexus to terrorism."

The last word goes to Texas Rep. Chip Roy, who wrote on X:

  • “This Islamist murderer of Americans in my home of Austin, TX came on a tourist VISA, OVERSTAYED for years, applied for LPR status through his American citizen wife - granted under Bush (no doubt amid GOP celebration of the joys of “melting pot” legal immigration), and may have divorced her, became a U.S. citizen years later under Obama, then applied for citizenship for two more of his wives in succession! Then he was arrested in Texas in 2022. This is why we are losing our country, our immigration system is a joke, and should PAUSE ALL immigration.”
