The Supreme Court signaled it may rein in one of Democrats’ favorite election schemes – counting ballots that show up after Election Day.

The details: Justices heard arguments in Watson v. RNC, a challenge to Mississippi’s law allowing mail-in ballots to be counted up to five days – as long as they’re postmarked on time.

Why this matters: This case would affect more than just Mississippi. 14 states, D.C., and three U.S. territories currently allow ballots to be counted after Election Day.

The debate: Republicans argue that late-arriving ballots create uncertainty and open the door to fraud. Democrats say postmark rules protect mail-in voters from delays outside their control.

Zoom out: These policies exploded during COVID to accommodate pandemic safety – and stuck. Dozens of states expanded mail-in voting and relaxed deadlines in 2020. Many blue states made those temporary rules permanent.

What’s next: A decision is expected by early summer, with major implications for how votes are counted in the 2026 midterm elections.

Elon Musk is making one of his biggest bets yet – building a $20B+ chip empire called Terafab from scratch because he says the world can’t keep up with his AI ambitions.

What is Terafab? It’s a joint venture between Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI – three of Musk's most powerful companies – to build semiconductors in one place, from design to delivery.

Why is he doing this? Right now, Musk's companies rely on outside manufacturers like Samsung to supply chips. He says current chipmakers aren’t scaling fast enough for Tesla’s robotics, self-driving, and AI needs.

What kind of chips? Musk plans to produce two semiconductor chips:

The scale: Musk plans to produce 1 terawatt of chip output per year. For perspective, that is more than all the chip manufacturers in the world combined can provide today.

The catch: This is one of the hardest industries in the world to break into. Advanced chipmaking requires decades of expertise and precision engineering. Musk has no direct semiconductor background.

To infinity and beyond: Musk didn't stop at Earth. He outlined plans to run solar-powered AI satellites, develop an electromagnetic mass driver on the Moon operated by Optimus robots and humans, and ultimately use the chips to expand civilization to other planets and stars.

Big picture: An American company manufacturing semiconductor chips is great for the United States. It keeps chip manufacturing on U.S. soil, reduces dangerous dependence on Taiwan, creates tens of thousands of high-paying jobs, and directly counters China in the global tech race — all without spending a single taxpayer dollar.
