Wake Up Right - March 25, 2025

Good morning, folks! President Trump promised he'd put America back in business, and since taking office, he's doing just that—securing over $2.9 TRILLION in investment pledges from heavyweights like Apple, Nvidia, and the UAE. These are investments in American jobs, communities, and infrastructure.

This is what Trump means when he says: Make America Great Again 🇺🇸 .

  • John Phelan is confirmed as Sec. of the Navy

  • 🪦 First Black GOP female Rep. Mia Love dead at 49

  • 📫️ Postmaster General Louis Dejoy resigned effective immediately

  • 📈 48% of Californians would consider voting for a Republican governor

Private Trump admin texts reveal it’s even America-First behind closed doors

An anti-Trump journalist was accidentally added to an encrypted group chat with President Donald Trump's top cabinet officials as it discussed preparations to strike Houthi rebels in Yemen. The mishap serendipitously reveals that even in private, the administration puts America first.

The details: On March 15, Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg was inadvertently added to an encrypted Signal group chat with top members of the Trump administration as it discussed plans to bomb Houthi rebels in Yemen.

  • According to Goldberg, on March 13, he received an invite from Trump's National Security Advisor Michael Waltz to join a Signal chat group called "Houthi PC small group."

Set the table: Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, Iran-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen have launched countless attacks on shipping lanes in the Red Sea that use the Suez Canal to disrupt Western trade.

What is Signal? It’s a privacy-focused messaging app offering end-to-end encrypted messaging, popular with journalists, government employees, and those seeking privacy.

Who was in the chat? It included 18 of Trump's top cabinet officials, namely Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

What did they say? The messages are fascinating. The following is the most illustrative example of how insightful and intelligent the Trump cabinet is:

  • JD Vance red teams: The Vice President pointed out that: “I think we are making a mistake… 3 percent of US trade runs through the suez. 40 percent of European trade does...I am not sure the president is aware how inconsistent this is with his message on Europe right now… I am willing to support the consensus of the team and keep these concerns to myself. But there is a strong argument for delaying this a month, doing the messaging work on why this matters, seeing where the economy is, etc.” Vance is suggesting that, as usual, the U.S. is doing the work our Europen allies should be doing.

  • Sec. of Defense Hegseth responded: “VP: I understand your concerns – and fully support you raising w/ POTUS.” He went on to make the case for striking right away, adding: “Waiting a few weeks or a month does not fundamentally change the calculus... I see it as two things: 1) Restoring Freedom of Navigation, a core national interest; and 2) Reestablish deterrence, which Biden cratered.”

  • JD responded: “if you think we should do it let’s go. I just hate bailing Europe out again.

  • Hegseth answered: “VP: I fully share your loathing of European free-loading. It’s PATHETIC. But… we are the only ones on the planet (on our side of the ledger) who can do this. Nobody else even close. Question is timing. I feel like now is as good a time as any, given POTUS directive to reopen shipping lanes. I think we should go.

And the following day, they did go. On Saturday, March 15, the U.S. began bombing Houthi targets across Yemen.

Before moving on, I do want to credit Goldberg for waiting more than a week after the mission had ended to publish these text messages.

Democrats react: Senator Chuck Schumer, eager to deflect from calls within his own party for him to step down, reacted to the news, writing on X: “Just a stunning breach of military intelligence. If you were up in arms over unsecure emails years ago, you should be outraged by this amateurish behavior.”

What the White House is saying: It admitted the texts were authentic and issued a statement saying: “[W]e are reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain.”

Big picture: While Democrats try to scandalize the mishap, there’s one problem... These texts revealed that even in private discussions, the Trump administration puts America and the interests of its citizens first.

Shop the Wake Up Right store!

About a month ago, I was at a butcher in my neighborhood and saw a diagram of a cow, with all the cuts of meat labeled. And that gave me an idea for a t-shirt:

DOGE Butcher Shop — but instead of the cow, we use a pig. And the cuts of meat in the diagram represent all the waste, fraud, and abuse being butchered by the Trump admin.

Over the last few weeks, I worked with a really talented graphic designer who brought it to life. And on Friday I got a sample in the mail and I’m happy to say, it came out better than I’d hoped.

Also, my wife told me I had to mention that the t-shirt it’s printed on is Custom Colors. Apparently, they’re well-known for high-quality materials. I just chose them because they are printed in the U.S. and made with 100 U.S. cotton.

Snow White is a box office poison apple

The much-hyped, controversy-plagued live-action Snow White remake flopped in its opening weekend — despite topping the box office.

The details: The Rachel Zegler-led film pulled in just $43 million, falling short of it’s $85M projections and far below its $270M budget.

Back up: That makes it Disney’s weakest live-action remake opening, even trailing 2019’s Dumbo ($46M).

For context: Two of Disney’s more successful live-action reboots were:

  • The Lion King (2019): $191M

  • Beauty and the Beast (2017): $174M

Controversy: Most of the film's issues stemmed from its star, Rachel Zegler, who frequently tore down the original 1937 classic. In one instance, she said: "There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird! Weird. So we didn’t do that this time."

  • Going political: Zegler also took to social media to comment, "May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace” after he won the 2024 election.

Critics give it two thumbs down: The film currently boasts a whopping 1.9 out of 10 rating on IMDB and a 43% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes.
