Good afternoon, Wake Up Right fam! Coming at you a little late today. Hopefully, I catch you on your lunch break.

Democrats [minus John Fetterman] once again killed a bill to reopen the Department of Homeland Security yesterday, extending the chaos at American airports.

This means TSA (roughly 50K employees) and most of DHS (260K employees) will once again miss a paycheck tomorrow.

Take action: Pick a centrist Democrat – don’t bother with the far-left nutjobs – and call their office. Tell them to stop putting politics and illegal aliens over the American people:

  • Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto: (202) 224-3542

  • Sen. Maggie Hassan: (202) 224-3324

  • Sen. Angus King: (202) 224-5344

  • Sen. Jon Ossoff: (202) 224-3521

  • Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand: (202) 224-4451

  • Sen. Mark Warner: (202) 224-2023

  • 📈 60% of military voters approve of Trump

  • 🍸 Today is Nancy Pelosi's 86th birthday

  • 📊 Generic Congressional ballot: 45% Dems, 42% GOP

  • 🚚 17K truckers failed to pass Trump's English proficiency test

Meet the traitor paying big to spread Chinese Propaganda in the U.S.

A China-based American tech billionaire was exposed for funneling $9.1 million to a Shanghai firm to build what investigators call a massive Chinese Communist Party (CCP) propaganda operation – and here’s the kicker: it was done through tax-exempt U.S. non-profits.

The details: A Fox News Digital report outlined how Neville Roy Singham [who sold his tech company Thoughtworks for nearly $800 million] built a sprawling network of roughly 2,000 organizations that produce and amplify pro-CCP, anti-American messaging across five continents.

  • China network: Three Singham-linked U.S. nonprofits made seven payments totaling $9.1 million to Shanghai Maku Cultural Communications Co., a firm that openly produces content aligned with CCP narratives.

  • Eleven U.S. nonprofits form the core hub, with roughly $401 million flowing into them from Singham and his network since 2017.

  • The groups enjoy tax-exempt status while staging anti-American protests, praising Xi Jinping's regime on camera, and packaging it all as grassroots activism.

Examples of his work: In November, The National Pulse uncovered how then-NYC Mayoral Candidate Zohran Mandani's campaign headquarters was located at Singham's non-profit group, The People's Forum.

  • Behind “grassroots” left-wing protests: Singham's non-profits played a key role in funding and organizing the "grassroots" pro-Palestine protests that popped up across the U.S. in 2024.

…and then there’s the wife: Singham is married to Jodi Evans, the founder of CodePink, a radical left-wing activist group. CodePink was in Cuba last week doing propaganda for the Cuban Communist regime.

Action needed: House Ways and Means Chair Jason Smith has accused the network of "sowing discord" and is pressing Treasury Secretary Bessent to strip the groups' tax-exempt status.

Meta and YouTube guilty of addicting kids

Meta and YouTube were found liable in the first-ever social media addiction trial to reach a verdict – validating what millions of parents have been saying for years: these platforms were designed to hook kids, and the companies knew it.

The details: A Los Angeles jury found Meta 70% responsible and YouTube 30% responsible for harm caused to the plaintiff, a 20-year-old woman identified as K.G.M., who says she became addicted to Instagram and YouTube as a child.

  • The jury ordered $6 million in compensatory and punitive damages after finding the companies acted with malice.

  • “Acted with malice” means the company acted with intentional disregard for the safety or rights of others.

Background: K.G.M. testified she started using YouTube at age 6 and Instagram at age 9, posting 284 videos on YouTube before finishing elementary school.

  • Her addiction led to crippling depression, body dysmorphia, and suicidal thoughts.

Damning evidence: Internal Meta documents shown to jurors revealed that the company knew 11-year-olds were four times more likely to keep returning to Instagram than competing apps – despite the platform requiring users to be at least 13.

What the apps are saying: Meta and YouTube both plan to appeal. A Meta spokesperson argued that teen mental health is "profoundly complex and cannot be linked to a single app."

Zoom out: Legal experts are comparing it to the 1990s tobacco lawsuits, warning that a verdict like this opens the floodgates for thousands of pending cases.

Related: Earlier this week, a New Mexico jury hit Meta with $375 million for misleading consumers about platform safety and enabling child exploitation.

Real talk from G: I’ll be honest with you all… I’m a little conflicted here. I think [I know] these companies intentionally build their algorithms to addict people. But Coca-Cola also forms its recipe to addict people to sugary drinks, and childhood obesity is through the roof – but Coke isn’t being sued. There’s a personal responsibility angle to this that makes me uneasy about this ruling. Parents have a responsibility to monitor their children’s social media consumption the same way they monitor their soda consumption. IDK. Parents, please respond to this e-mail and let me know if you agree or disagree.
