Trump DOJ arrests top MS-13 leader

Federal agents arrested a top MS-13 leader yesterday outside Washington, D.C., in a major takedown led by Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel — part of the Trump administration’s emphasis on targeting illegal gang activity.

The details: Henrry Josue Villatoro Santos, 24, a high-ranking East Coast MS-13 operative and illegal migrant from El Salvador, was taken into custody on weapons charges after a SWAT raid near Dale City, VA.

• The effort was a joint operation led by Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel and included the FBI, ICE, ATF, and state and local police.

Quote: AG Bondi told the press: “He was the leader for the East Coast; one of the top three in the entire country — right here in Virginia, living half an hour outside Washington D.C.”

Zoom out: This arrest is part of an ongoing operation that has nabbed 340 MS-13 gang members in Virgina in just the last month.

Finding sanctuary: While Virginia is not a "sanctuary state," there are several local counties — like the one where Santos was found — with policies that prevent local law enforcement from coordinating with ICE.

• Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin vowed to defund any “sanctuary” counties that don’t cooperate with ICE.

The Trump mandate: Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin told the press: "This task force was architected in a very quick period of time… When Director Patel was confirmed, within a day, he authorized [a mobilization of resources]. General Bondi immediately came to lead it… I cannot emphasize enough the collaboration and support and leadership out of the new administration that is so different than what we saw [under the Biden Administration].”

The last word goes back to AG Bongi, who said: “He is an illegal alien from El Salvador, and he will not be living in our country much longer.”

RFK Jr. begins MAHA overhaul

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is cutting 10,000 jobs and restructuring the agency to shrink bureaucracy, boost efficiency, and refocus the agency on chronic disease prevention.

The details: RFK Jr. plans to shrink the agency from 82,000 to 62,000 full-time employees — saving $1.8 billion annually. Kennedy says the focus will be on eliminating excess administrators within HHS while increasing the number of scientists and frontline health providers.

Bloat: Kennedy described the tremendous waste at the agency in a conversation with Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles:

• “We have over 100 communications departments — we should have one. We have 40 IT departments, 40 procurement departments, dozens of HR departments. And that is where we’re doing the cuts.”

What about the other 10,000? Roughly 10,000 HHS employees have already accepted buyout offers through Trump’s “Fork in the Road” initiative, which used generous severance offers to incentivise employees to leave the federal government.

Restructuring: Kennedy says the entire department will be restructured from 28 current divisions down to just 15.

AHA: In addition to these changes, Kennedy announced the launch of the new Administration for a Healthy America (AHA), which will merge existing agencies handling addiction, substance abuse, mental health, and others under this new umbrella.

Fraud and abuse: Kennedy will also create an Assistant Secretary for Enforcement, whose role will be to combat fraud and abuse in the agency.

The big picture: These first steps put the agency on track to align with the Trump administration’s mandate to end “America’s epidemic of chronic illness by focusing on safe, wholesome food, clean water, and the elimination of environmental toxins.”
