Wake Up Right - May 13, 2025

Good morning, folks! President Trump touched down in Saudi Arabia this morning, kicking off a major Middle East trip.
What’s he doing there? He’s securing, what some experts believe will be, up to a trillion dollars in investments in America.
America’s salesman: When companies are looking to close big deals, they send their CEO and best salesmen to close the deal. In the U.S., we’re lucky because our CEO also happens to be our best salesman.

House drops its MAGA tax plan

House Republicans unveiled a tax reform bill aimed at extending President Donald Trump's 2017 tax cuts and codifying key campaign promises like no tax on tips and overtime.
The details: The House Ways and Means Committee released the text of the tax plan on Monday, which includes:
No tax on tips: Income from tips would be tax-free from 2025 through 2028.
No tax on overtime: Overtime pay would be tax-free from 2025 through 2028.
Senior Deduction: An additional $4,000 standard deduction for individuals aged 65 and older, phased out at higher income levels.
MAGA Accounts: Tax-preferred savings accounts for children born between 2025 and 2028, funded with $1,000 at birth.
Child Tax Credit: Increased from $2,000 to $2,500 between 2025 and 2028, then indexed to inflation.
Car Loan Interest: Deduction for interest on car loans for vehicles assembled in the U.S., applicable from 2025 through 2028.
SALT Deduction Cap: Tripled from $10,000 to $30,000 for individuals earning up to $400,000.
How will they pay for it? The bill plans to offset Trump’s tax cuts by:
Electric Vehicle Credits: Elimination of credits for new electric vehicles after December 31, 2025, with exceptions for manufacturers selling fewer than 200,000 vehicles.
Clean-Energy Tax Breaks: Phased out starting in 2029 and eliminated after 2031.
Remittances: Introduction of a 5% excise tax on certain payments to residents of foreign countries.
University and Foundation Endowments: Annual tax of up to 21% on net investment income for some universities and up to 10% for foundations, with graduated scales based on wealth.
Zoom out: Once approved, this plan will be rolled into President Trump’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” which will also include spending cuts and spending for defense and border enforcement.
What the left is saying: Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton wrote on X that the bill would slash “crucial health care and nutrition assistance programs.”
Fact check: The bill makes clear it does not touch Medicare or Social Security. It does propose cuts to Medicaid by implementing work requirements for able-bodied adults aged 19 to 64 without dependents, excluding pregnant women. Good!
Big picture: Republican lawmakers aim to pass the full “big, beautiful bill” and have it on President Trump’s desk by July 4th.
The last word goes to President Trump, who wrote on Truth Social:
“It will be the biggest Tax Cut for Middle and Working Class Americans by far, and it is time for Main Street to WIN. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump reigns in prescription drug costs

I planned to write about President Trump’s landmark prescription drug executive order, but my normally peaceful train ride into work, where I’m able to finish writing this newsletter was disrupted… Thankfully, this important story was covered thoroughly by our friends over at The National Pulse…
President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order implementing a “most favored nation” prescription drug pricing policy that could cut pharmaceutical costs by anywhere between 30 and 80 percent for Americans.

About two months ago, I was at a butcher in my neighborhood and saw a diagram of a cow, with all the cuts of meat labeled. And that gave me an idea for a t-shirt:
DOGE Butcher Shop — but instead of the cow, we use a pig. And the cuts of meat in the diagram represent all the waste, fraud, and abuse being butchered by the Trump admin.
Over the last few weeks, I worked with a really talented graphic designer who brought it to life. And on Friday I got a sample in the mail and I’m happy to say, it came out better than I’d hoped.
Also, my wife told me I had to mention that the t-shirt it’s printed on is Comfort Colors. Apparently, they’re well-known for high-quality materials. I just chose them because they are printed in the U.S. and made with 100 U.S. cotton.
