Welcome back, Wake Up Right fam! Did you know…
On this day in 1924, President Coolidge signed the Immigration Act of 1924, applying strict caps designed to keep communists and unskilled workers out of the country while preserving America’s Western European-descent majority.
The law capped annual immigration from any country at 2% of that nationality's U.S. population in 1890 – effectively freezing America's demographic makeup in place.
It worked for four decades. Then, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Hart-Celler Act in 1965 and blew the doors off. We've been living with the fallout ever since.

Iran deal suffers setback

The U.S. military struck southern Iran early Tuesday, hitting missile sites and Iranian minelaying boats in the Strait of Hormuz — less than 48 hours after President Donald Trump declared a deal "largely negotiated."
The details: Strikes hit targets near Bandar Abbas, home to one of Iran's largest naval bases and a chokepoint on the Strait. U.S. Central Command said the operation was carried out "to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces," while still "using restraint during the ongoing ceasefire."
Back up: Hours earlier, Trump warned on Truth Social it would be a "great and meaningful" deal — or "back to the Battlefront and shooting, but bigger and stronger than ever before."
Wait… I thought a deal was done? Two days earlier, Iran had reportedly agreed in principle to hand over its enriched uranium, end its nuclear ambitions, and permanently reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump was lining up Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan, and Jordan to sign onto his signature Middle East peace deal, the Abraham Accords, as part of the package.
Then, Iranian forces got caught laying mines in the world's most critical oil chokepoint.
The last word goes to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who, following the fresh strikes, told reporters a deal was still very possible, adding: "I think it’s a lot of talking back and forth going on about specific language in the initial document, so it’ll take a few days."

Please, brother, I can’t breathe

"Please, brother, I can't breathe," were 18-year-old Henry Nowak's last words as British police slapped him in handcuffs – bleeding out from stab wounds – because his Sikh killer cried racism first. Elon Musk is now vowing to bankroll a wrongful death lawsuit against what he calls "disgusting excuses for law enforcement."
How it went down: Nowak, a first-year student at Southampton University, was walking home from a night out in December when he crossed paths with 23-year-old British-Indian Sikh Vickrum Digwa. Within minutes, Nowak was on the ground with five stab wounds – two to the back of his legs, one to the jaw, and a fatal blow to the chest from an 8-inch curved religious blade called a shastar.
Here's what Digwa claims happened: Nowak was drunk, bumped into him, racially abused him, and said, "I'm going to kill you." Digwa says he stabbed "twice" with the knife in self-defense, fearing for his life.
When police arrived, Digwa got to them first [because his victim was busy bleeding out] and told them he was the victim of racial abuse and that he stabbed Nowak in self-defense.
Courtroom details: Body cam footage shown to jurors paints a very different picture from Digwa's account and exposes how officers treated the real victim.
Nowak tries to tell police he’s been stabbed and can’t breathe as they handcuff him while he lies on his side.
When Nowak repeated he'd been stabbed, another voice on the footage replied, "I don't think you have, mate."
Nowak died at the scene. Prosecutor Nicholas Lobbenberg told the court that Nowak "drowned in his own blood" after the blade pierced his lung.
Debunking Digwa's victim claim: The evidence presented at trial directly contradicts nearly every piece of Digwa's self-defense story.
A pathologist found no evidence that Nowak had punched anyone.
Video footage from Nowak's own phone, later found in Digwa's pocket, captured the encounter – and contained no racial abuse.
The ceremonial knife problem: UK law bars regular Brits from carrying a blade over 3 inches in public – but Sikhs get a religious exemption to carry the kirpan, a ceremonial dagger, because it’s an "article of faith."
Here’s the kicker: Even if you have no problem with this knife hypocrisy, Digwa was already wearing a small kirpan around his neck. So the longer 8-inch blade he was carrying was by choice, not for religious purposes.
Musk steps in: The world's richest man saw the body cam transcript and erupted on X, writing: "Unconscionable. I am happy to fund a wrongful death lawsuit against these disgusting excuses for law enforcement."
Musk followed up, comparing the global response to George Floyd's death to the silence over a British teen who actually said "I can't breathe" while dying in police custody.
Big picture: Britain is drowning in knife violence, and it's coming mostly from its foreign-born population. London Probation's 2024 data shows roughly 75% of knife crimes are non-White.
