Wake Up Right - May 30, 2025

Happy Friday, Wake Up Right fam! Exactly one year ago today, Donald Trump was convicted of a bogus crime in a biased New York City court — the first time a former president had ever been convicted.

Democrats wanted him in a prison cell. Instead, he woke up this morning in the White House. 🇺🇸

Trump State Department revokes Chinese student visas

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the U.S. will “aggressively” revoke visas for Chinese students as the Trump administration turns up the heat on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The details: Rubio says the revocations will focus on students “with connections to the Chinese Communist Party or studying in critical fields” like engineering, physics, and biotech.

  • The State Department will also freeze all new student visa interviews while it rewrites its entry rules.

Why? The U.S. says Chinese nationals have repeatedly engaged in espionage, from infiltrating labs to stealing military secrets. Some recent examples include:

  • Yanqing Ye: The Boston University student and alleged Chinese military officer was accused of spying on U.S. scientists.

  • Chaoqun Ji: Was convicted for gathering information on defense contractors while at Illinois Institute of Technology.

Zoom out: Roughly 275,000 Chinese students currently study in the U.S.

What is China saying? Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Mao Ning called the move "unjustified" and said "exposes the U.S. hypocrisy over freedom and openness."

Real talk from G: Wanna know how many Americans study at Chinese universities? 800. Meanwhile, we are educating hundreds of thousands of Chinese who go back home to serve our number one geopolitical enemy. Good on Trump and Rubio.

MSNBC ratings bomb in May

MSNBC’s ratings are circling the drain, despite efforts from the rabidly anti-Trump network to revamp its lineup.

The numbers: MSNBC could not break the 1 million viewer mark in May, averaging just 887,000 primetime viewers — down 24% year-over-year. In the key 25-54 age demo, the network drew just 73,000 viewers — a 34% drop.

  • Tacky Psaki: Former Biden White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki's new 'The Briefing' bombed, averaging less than 1 million viewers and less than 50,000 in the key demo by late May.

  • No Joy: 'The Weeknight,' MSNBC's new panel show [pictured above], which airs at 7 PM, averaged just 772,000 viewers — which is somehow less than the abysmal 955,000 ratings fired host Joy Reid was garnering in the same spot.

For perspective: Fox News viewership surged to 2.46 million primetime viewers — up 23% from 2024. And 262,000 in the 25-54 demo — up 32%.

  • The Five averaged 3.77 million

  • Jesse Watters Primetime averaged 3.24 million

  • Gutfeld! averaged 2.92 million

Zoom out: MSNBC is struggling to find its way after Rachel Maddow cut her five-day schedule to just one show a week. Maddow’s show averaged 1.89 million viewers before cutting back.

CNN is still trash [In case you were wondering]: The left-wing network continued to struggle in May, averaging just 426,000 primetime — down 18% from 2024.

Shop the Wake Up Right store!

A few months ago, I was at a butcher in my neighborhood and saw a diagram of a cow, with all the cuts of meat labeled. And that gave me an idea for a t-shirt:

DOGE Butcher Shop — but instead of the cow, we use a pig. And the cuts of meat in the diagram represent all the waste, fraud, and abuse being butchered by the Trump admin.

Over the last few weeks, I worked with a really talented graphic designer who brought it to life. And on Friday I got a sample in the mail and I’m happy to say, it came out better than I’d hoped.

Also, my wife told me I had to mention that the t-shirt it’s printed on is Comfort Colors. Apparently, they’re well-known for high-quality materials. I just chose them because they are printed in the U.S. and made with 100 U.S. cotton.
