President Donald Trump announced a landmark trade deal with the United Kingdom — the first since putting tariffs in place on Liberation Day last month.

The details: Joined by U.K. trade representatives in the Oval Office and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer by speakerphone, Trump laid out the framework of the new trade deal:

  • 🇺🇸 U.S. tariffs on imports from the U.K. will remain at 10%

  • 🛩️ Rolls-Royce engines and airplane parts are excluded from U.S. tariffs

  • 💾 U.K. drops its digital service tax on U.S. tech companies

  • ⛓️ Eliminates steel tariffs on both sides

Market access: The $5 billion in new market access for the U.S. includes industries like: ethanol, beef, fruits, vegetables, cereals, animal feed, tobacco, soft drinks, shellfish, textiles, chemicals, machinery, and more.

What they’re saying:

  • President Trump wrote on Truth Social: “The Deal I made today with the United Kingdom is GREAT for our FARMERS and RANCHERS! It’s also wonderful for the United Kingdom. Everybody benefits, that’s the way it should be!”

  • PM Starmer thanks Trump for his leadership and called the deal a "really important deal" that will not only "protect jobs, but create jobs, opening market access."

Markets react: U.S. and European stocks jumped on Thursday, following the trade deal announcement.

Up next: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will meet with Chinese representatives in Switzerland this weekend to begin negotiating a trade deal.

Where Pope Leo XIV stands on the issues

Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost of Chicago has been elected Pope Leo XIV — the first American to hold the papacy.

The question on the minds of many Catholics and politicos alike is: Will he carry on Pope Francis’ progressive legacy, or steer the Church back toward tradition?

First, the details: On the second day of the Conclave to choose the next Pope, white smoke billowed from the Vatican, signalling a new pontiff had been chosen.

  • Shortly after, Pope Leo XIV gave his first remarks, saying he wants the Catholic Church to be "a Church that always seeks peace, that always seeks charity, that always seeks to be close especially to those who suffer."

About Pope Leo XIV: He was born in Chicago and was raised in Dolton, Illinois. He served as a missionary and bishop in Peru for over two decades. In 2023, Pope Francis appointed him as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and elevated him to the rank of Cardinal.

Right or Left? He has a mixed history on social and political issues.

  • Abortion: Leo XIV is staunchly pro-life. He posted in 2015 on (then) Twitter: “Let’s defend human life at all times!”

  • Immigration: The new pontiff has recently criticized the Trump administration for its actions, posting on X a quote from Cardinal Dolan, which read: “Why Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric is so problematic.”

  • Gender ideology: While serving as Bishop in Peru he said: “The promotion of gender ideology is confusing, because it seeks to create genders that don’t exist.”

  • Homosexuality: He has said that “homosexual lifestyle” and “alternative families comprised of same-sex partners and their adopted children" are practices “that are at odds with the Gospel."

  • Gun rights: In 2017, he retweeted Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy's message on gun control, which read: “[C]owardice to act cannot be whitewashed by thoughts and prayers. None of this ends unless we do something to stop it."

  • Climate change: Last November, he pushed for radical climate change action, arguing it was time to move “from words to action” on the “environmental crisis.”

How he votes: According to public records, Pope XIV is a registered Republican and has voted in a number of Republican primary elections in the past

Trump weighs in: President Trump wrote on Truth Social:

  • “It is such an honor to realize that he is the first American Pope. What excitement, and what a Great Honor for our Country. I look forward to meeting Pope Leo XIV. It will be a very meaningful moment!”

Shop the Wake Up Right store!

About two months ago, I was at a butcher in my neighborhood and saw a diagram of a cow, with all the cuts of meat labeled. And that gave me an idea for a t-shirt:

DOGE Butcher Shop — but instead of the cow, we use a pig. And the cuts of meat in the diagram represent all the waste, fraud, and abuse being butchered by the Trump admin.

Over the last few weeks, I worked with a really talented graphic designer who brought it to life. And on Friday I got a sample in the mail and I’m happy to say, it came out better than I’d hoped.

Also, my wife told me I had to mention that the t-shirt it’s printed on is Comfort Colors. Apparently, they’re well-known for high-quality materials. I just chose them because they are printed in the U.S. and made with 100 U.S. cotton.
