Wake Up Right - November 13, 2024

Good morning, Wake Up Right fam! As Democrats begin to autopsy the corpse of their 2024 campaign strategy, one left-wing polling firm released exit polls that highlight how out of touch they are with voters.

The poll: Over 3,200 Americans were asked why they did not support Kamala. Their top responses were:

  1. Inflation

  2. Illegal immigration

  3. Kamala's focus on trans issues

All I can say is… Duh.

  • 🔴 Senate GOP will vote for a new leader today

  • GOP won low-income vote for 1st time since ‘60s

  • 🚙 49% say people drive less safely than 5 years ago

  • 🤡 89% of SNL's 'Weekend Update' political jokes target Trump

DOGE takes off, and Trump fills his cabinet

This is not the actual DOGE logo

Donald Trump announced he’s appointed Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) — alongside other high-profile appointments on Tuesday.

DOGE: In a press release shared on Trump's Truth Social page, he said: "Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies." Both Musk and Vivek hinted at citizen involvement, in respective X posts:

  • Musk wrote: “All actions of the Department of Government Efficiency will be posted online for maximum transparency. Anytime the public thinks we are cutting something important or not cutting something wasteful, just let us know!”

  • Vivek wrote: “DOGE will soon begin crowdsourcing examples of government waste, fraud, & and abuse. Americans voted for drastic government reform & they deserve to be part of fixing it.”

DOGE Timeline: Trump's press release pledged to "drive out the massive waste and fraud which exists throughout our annual $6.5 Trillion Dollars of Government Spending" no later than July 4, 2026 — America's 250th anniversary.

But this was far from the only appointment of the day…

Secretary of DHS: Trump appointed South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem as his Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)., noting she "has been very strong on Border Security" and added that she was the first Governor to send her state's National Guard to "help Texas fight the Biden Border Crisis."

  • Noem responded, saying she will work to "make America SAFE again."

Secretary of Defense: Trump appointed Pete Hegseth as his Secretary of Defense, noting: "Pete has spent his entire life as a Warrior for the Troops, and for the Country."

  • You may only know Pete from Fox News, but he has an impressive resume, with degrees from Princeton and Harvard. He served in the military for 20 years, including deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also runs a non-profit for Veterans.

CIA Director: Trump appointed John Ratcliffe as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Ratcliffe served as Director of National Intelligence in his first administration.

  • In Trump’s press release, he praised Ratcliffe for his work exposing the Russian collusion hoax and uncovering the FBI's abuse of the FISA Court program.

Other appointments: Trump also appointed Rep. Mike Waltz as his National Security Advisor, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee as Ambassador to Israel, Steve Witkoff as Special Envoy to the Middle East, and William Joseph McGinley as his White House Counsel.

CNN and MSNBC in free fall

Cable news networks CNN and MSNBC have seen their viewership tank in the wake of Donald Trump’s win over Kamala Harris, and reports suggest the companies are looking to make major changes.

The numbers: According to Mediaite, the two left-wing cable networks saw their audience crater in the days after the election. Here’s what average viewership looked like on Thursday (11/7):

  • 🔻 MSNBC: 596,000

  • 🔻 CNN: 419,000

  • Fox News: 2.6 million

Primetime was worse: In the coveted TV hours between 8 PM and 11 PM, CNN's viewership fell 30%, while MSNBC saw a 54% plunge.

Zoom out: The lefty cable networks engineered narratives like the debunked Russia collusion hoax during Trump's first term to drive ratings. But eight years later, most Americans are tired of being lied to.

Programming example: Earlier this week, one of MSNBC's most radical left-leaning anchors, Joy-Ann Reid, hosted a guest who advocated for skipping holiday celebrations with your family if they voted for Trump.

Networks are tired of losing money: CNN is reportedly planning to lay off hundreds of employees, including on-air talent, in the coming months, according to Puck News. MSNBC's parent company, Comcast, is considering tossing out the entire network. CEO Mike Cavanaugh said the network, along with CNBC, Bravo, and others, could be spun off and sold.

Real talk from G: People will blame the shifting landscape toward podcasts & streaming as a reason for the decline of cable news. But Fox News bucks that theory. I think this is more of a trust issue. MSNBC and CNN have burned their audience time and time again because they put money and ideology over truth. They broke the cardinal rule of content creation: Respect your audience.
