Wake Up Right - November 13, 2025

Good morning, Wake Up Right fam! The U.S. official stopped minting new pennies. The 230-year-old currency had essentially become literally worthless – costing more (3 cents) to make than its value (1 cent).
The 232-year-old penny retired before Nancy Pelosi and Mitch McConnell. Let that sink in.

Blue flight

A new analysis finds that four blue states have lost over a trillion dollars in taxable income over the past decade as residents flee to lower-tax states.
The details: The report by the Committee to Unleash Prosperity found that between 2013 and 2022, New York lost $517.5 billion and New Jersey $170.1 billion in resident income, according to IRS and Census data.
Other major losers: California lost $370 billion in tax revenue, and Illinois took a $315 billion hit.
Big ticket: Combined, the four deep-blue states lost more than $1.3 trillion in taxable income over the past decade.
The winners: Florida gained $1 trillion in income over the same period, while Texas added $290 billion.
The tax numbers: Top earners in California, New York, and New Jersey face state income tax rates over 10%, often lifting total taxes above 50%. Texas and Florida charge no income tax.
Population shifts: From 2011–2022, New York lost 1.76 million residents – the most in the U.S. Over that same period, Florida gained 1.59 million, Texas 1.27 million, and North Carolina 520,000.
The last word goes to Steve Morre, economist and co-founder of Unleash Prosperity, who called it “one of the greatest wealth losses for one region in American history.”

Dems release e-mails confirming Trump took issue with Epstein

Apologies in advance for any spelling/formatting issues: I usually bring my laptop on the train to work, but I forgot it at home, so this article was written on my iPhone.
House Democrats dropped a batch of 2015 Jeffrey Epstein emails hoping to smear President Trump - but the messages instead suggest Trump pushed back on Epstein and that Epstein allies discussed blackmail leverage against him.
The details: The House Oversight minority released redacted emails between Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell and Trump-hating author Michael Wolff centered on Trump.
The “Mar-a-Lago” email: Epstein tells Wolff: “Trump said he asked me to resign… he knew about the girls as he asked [G]hislaine to stop.”
This seems to corroborate previous reports that Trump banned Epstein from his Florida club. The phrase “asked Ghislaine to stop” also shows he opposed their actions.
Most news reports have published the headline “knew about the girls” without the full context.
Exclusion: In one email, the Democrats redacted the name of an Epstein victim, but it was revealed that woman - Virginia Giuffre - did not request redaction.
Democrats omitted her name because she worked at Mar-A-Lago and has repeatedly affirmed that Trump “couldn’t have been friendlier” and was never inappropriate.
Blackmail: Wolff advises Epstein to “let [Trump] hang himself,” during a CNN interview about their previous friendshio and falling out, adding Epstein could “save him… generating a debt.”
This email shows Epstein-world strategizing about using Trump - not Trump doing anything improper. It reads like a blueprint for political leverage.
The last word goes to Trump, who reacted on Truth Social, writing:
“In other words, the Democrats are using the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax to try and deflect from their massive failures, in particular, their most recent one — THE SHUTDOWN!”
