The public is finally learning more about the would-be assassin who shot then-candidate Donald Trump while he was on the campaign trail in 2024 – from violent online threats to identifying as transgender.

The details: According to a blockbuster report from the NY Post's Miranda Divine, investigators have identified multiople anonymous social media ccounts belonging to Thomas Crooks, including two DeviantArt profiles where he used they/them pronouns and consumed sexually explicit furry content. His posts fixated on muscular cartoons and violent imagery.

• A furry is someone who likes dressing up as a cartoon-style animal. It appears Crooks had a sexual fetish for them.

Furry pattern: Crooks’ penchant for explicit furry content mirrors patterns seen in Charlie Kirk's assassin case.

Extremism: Despite then-Director Christopher Wray's FBI claiming Crooks showed "no clear motive," his online presence [under his real name] was saturated with violent rhetoric. Interestingly, his pre-2020 posts were pro-Trump. However, in early 2020, during COVID, he abruptly shifted – calling him racist, mocking his supporters as a "cult," and writing that terrorism-style attackers were the only way to take him on.

Related: In a separate report, Tucker Carlson alleges his sources say Crooks interacted with a user online named "Willy_Tepes" – someone tied to a neo-Nazi terrorist organization. Tepes encouraged Crooks' violent theorizing, telling him: "Authority comes from the barrel of a gun."

What’s next? Pressure is mounting on the FBI and Secret Service to release investigative files, explain prior knowledge of Crooks, and account for ongoing threats.

A sweeping new analysis shows British police made nearly 10,000 arrests for “grossly offensive” online posts in 2024—an average of 30 people a day—even as knife crime, burglary, and sexual offences go unsolved.

The details: Data obtained through a Freedom of Information (FOI) request from 39 police forces found that there were 9,700 arrests made under the UK’s Communications Act and Malicious Communications Act last year.

• Six forces refused to provide numbers, meaning the real tally is almost certainly higher.

Absurd examples: The dataset highlights incidents now infamous worldwide:

• Comedy writer Graham Linehan was arrested at Heathrow by armed police over three gender-critical tweets.

• A 71-year-old ex-cop was detained for eight hours for mocking a pro-Palestine activist – while officers mocked his “Brexit” bookshelf.

• Parents were raided at dawn over “sarcastic” emails to a school; both were held 11 hours in front of their crying daughter.

Orwell youth: U.K. Schools have begun teaching students to detect “extremism” online—fueling concerns of an emerging youth-policing culture reminiscent of 1984.

On the other hand: While the U.K. has been busy policing speech, they've also been releasing violent offenders early – nearly 1,700 as of late 2024.

Trump is taking action: President Trump dispatched a free-speech delegation to London and tied cooperation and trade dialogues to civil-liberties protections – while offering asylum to targeted British dissidents.
