Congress votes to release the Epstein files

Lawmakers in both chambers moved at lightning speed Tuesday to force the public release of long-secret Jeffrey Epstein records – a shift driven by President Donald Trump’s vocal call to “release everything.”

The details: The House passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act 427–1, requiring the Department of Justice (DOJ) to publish all unclassified records, documents, communications, investigative materials, travel logs, and names referenced in Epstein-related probes.

• Within hours, the Senate unanimously approved the measure, sending it to Trump’s desk.

• Will anything be withheld? The bill only allows for redactions to protect the victims’ privacy.

Back up: Last week, Trump switched his stance after months of downplaying the files, and demanded their release on Truth Social, calling to “investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and many other people and institutions.”

• He added: “Records show that these men, and many others, spent large portions of their life with Epstein, and on his ‘Island.’ Stay tuned!!!”

Related: It was revealed that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries solicited donations from Epstein in 2013, long after he was convicted for sexually abusing minors.

What happens next? Trump has confirmed he will sign the legislation.
