Ukraine fires long-range missiles into Russia after Biden authorizes use

Ukraine has fired U.S.-made long-range missiles into Russian territory for the first time, days after Joe Biden authorized their use. The move has created concern over potential nuclear escalation.

The details: On Tuesday, Ukraine carried out its strike, aimed at an ammunition depot in Karachev, around 75 miles into Russian territory. It used the US-manufactured Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) to launch six missiles. Russia claims it shot down five and damaged the sixth.

Back up: The strike took place two days after Biden reversed his own policy and authorized the use of long-range missiles against targets inside Russian territory.

Nuclear escalation: Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree allowing the use nuclear weapons against a non-nuclear enemy (Ukraine) if it is supported by a nuclear power (USA).

• Putin previously called the use of these weapons “nothing less than the direct participation” by the U.S. in the war and has authorized “possible use of nuclear deterrent” in response.

Where Trump stands: Donald Trump is expected to announce a peace envoy to end the war before he takes office.

The last word goes to tech-titan-turned-Trump-ally David Sacs, who wrote on X: “By authorizing missile strikes deep inside Russia in his last 2 months, Biden is trying to tie Trump’s hands on Ukraine. But this decision is so reckless that it may have the opposite effect. It proves Trump was 100% right to warn about the risk of WWIII throughout his campaign.”

Trans bathroom war comes to Congress

Rep. Nancy Mace introduced a bill to require House members and staff to use bathrooms that match their biological sex. The legislation comes after the first transgender biological man was elected to Congress.

Back up: Earlier this month, Deleware voters elected Sarah McBride to serve on the House of Representatives. Sarah [born Tim] is a biological man who identifies as transgender.

The details: The bill sets out to: “[Prohibit] [m]embers, officers, and employees of the House from using single-sex facilities other than those corresponding to their biological sex.”

• It warms that “allowing biological males into single-sex facilities, such as restrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms designed for women, jeopardizes the safety and dignity of Members, officers, and employees of the House who are female.”

• The bill puts the House Sergeant-at-Arms in charge of prohibiting enforcement.

What Rep. Mace is saying: She told a hostile ABC News reporter yesterday: "Forcing women to share private spaces with men is not dignity and not respect. I am absolutely going to stand in the way of anyone who thinks it's ok for a man to be in our locker room, in our changing rooms, in our dressing rooms, and in women's bathrooms.”

What the left is saying: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez [who recently removed her gender pronouns from her X bio] said: "This is not just bigotry, this is just plain bullying."

Threats to kill Rep. Mace: A clearly mentally ill transgender social media influencer who calls himself "Venus Andromeda" posted a video where he says:

• “Congresswoman Nancy Mace, I hope that one day I do find you in that women’s bathroom and I grab your ratty-looking f**cking hair and drag your face down to the floor while I repeatedly bash it in until the blood’s everywhere and you’re dead.”

What do Americans think? Recent polling found that 75% of Americans do not think “biological males who identify as women be allowed to use the women’s locker rooms, showers, and bathrooms.”

What happens next: Mace told ABC News that Speaker Mike Johnson plans to include her legislation in the House rules package.
