Good morning, and happy Transgender Day of Remembrance… Yes, it is a real, internationally celebrated “holiday.”

But not in this newsletter. Instead, let’s reserve our remembrance for the innocent people killed by transgender violence. Like:

  • Harper Boyski (10) and Fletcher Merkel (8), who were murdered by Robin Westman in August.

  • Evelyn Dieckhaus (9), Hallie Scruggs (9), Will Kinney (9), Katherine Koonce (60), Mike Hill (61), and Cynthia Peak (61), who were killed by Audrey Hale in 2023.

Since 2020, roughly 40% of school shooters were transgender.

Trump quietly hammering out Russia-Ukraine peace deal

President Donald Trump is quietly continuing his effort to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, with a reported 28-point peace plan in the works.

The details: The negotiations are being conducted in Miami between Trump’s top envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Russian President Vladimir Putin's ally, Kirill Dmitriev.

Key provisions: While the full plan has not been released, here’s what we know:

  • Russia would take control of the Luhansk and Donetsk (Donbas) regions in eastern Ukraine, but the area will be demilitarized, and Moscow can’t base troops there.

  • In Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, battle lines will be frozen, and some Russian-captured land will be returned to Ukraine.

  • Ukraine would receive U.S.-led security guarantees.

Zoom out: Qatar and Turkey are helping mediate after their successful part in the recent Israel-Gaza peace deal.

Pressure point: Corruption scandals swirling around Zelensky’s inner circle (we reported on the golden toilets and stolen cash last week) are further weakening his ability to maneuver.

What now? U.S. officials say the ball is in Zelensky’s court.

Big picture: Trump certainly would like to put this conflict to rest as he looks to refocus his attention towards the homeland and the Western Hemisphere.

Trump admin cracks down on SNAP fraud

President Donald Trump is turning Washington’s largest welfare program upside down and ordering a full recheck of who’s on food stamps and who’s gaming the system.

The details: Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins says SNAP [Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program] is “rife with fraud” and recipients will have to reapply and prove they still qualify.

The numbers: More than 41.7 million Americans receive SNAP benefits - roughly 11% of the total population. The total cost to taxpayers in 2024 was just shy of $100 billion.

The scale of fraud: Rollins requested that every state send her SNAP data. Across the 29 who complied:

  • 186,000 dead people still getting benefits

  • 500,000 collected SNAP in more than one state

…and you know the 21 states that didn’t comply are Democrat-run with the most fraud.

Taking action: Rollins says the Trump team has already removed ~700,000 fraudsters from SNAP and made 118 arrests.

Big picture: The Trump administration is wisely framing its actions by arguing that fraudsters rake away resources from the “truly needy.”

The last word goes to Sec. Rollins, who wrote on X:

  • “While millions play by the rules, many have learned to game the system — skirting work requirements, stealing benefits, trading cards for cash, and draining resources meant for the most vulnerable among us. “
