Trump’s crusade to avenge slaughtered Christians in Nigeria

President Donald Trump is threatening to take military action against Nigeria if its government fails to stop what he calls the “mass slaughter” of Christians by radical Islamist terrorists.

The details: Trump issued the warning on Truth Social, saying the U.S. could “go in guns-a-blazing” and would “immediately stop all aid” to Nigeria unless the killings cease. Additionally, he:

  • Ordered the Department of War to prepare for “possible action” which would be “fast, vicious, and sweet.”

  • Designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” citing the nation’s “existential threat to Christianity.”

Back up: More than 3,100 Christians have been killed this year in Nigeria – the highest toll globally.

Zoom out: More than 380 million Christians live in countries with "high" to "extreme" persecution or discrimination against them.

Friends in low places: Ironically, this genocide gained national awareness after the famously atheist comedian Bill Maher spoke about it on his weekly HBO show, saying:

  • “I’m not a Christian, but they are systematically killing the Christians in Nigeria. They’ve killed over 100,000 since 2009. They’ve burned 18,000 churches. These are the Islamists, Boko Haram.”

What Nigeria is saying: They're denying the genocide, with their President Bola Tinubu calling Trump's claims "a lie from the pit of hell."

Unlikely support: Rap star Nicki Minaj voiced support for President Trump’s statement, writing on X:

  • “Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude… Thank you to The President & his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian.”

The last word goes to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who wrote on Truth Social: "Either the Nigerian Government protects Christians, or we will kill the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities."

Big picture: Trump’s focus on this tragedy fits a broader pattern – stepping in to defend groups that are ignored or endangered by modern progressivism. Beyond Christians in Nigeria, he’s also spotlighted the wave of violence – including killings – targeting White South Africans, often inflamed by the country’s own politicians.
