Election Day cheat sheet

Tomorrow is Election Day, and both early voting results and polling data suggest it’s going to be a close race. Today, we’ll explore Trump’s pathways to victory so you understand the map on Election Night.

Polling: According to the Real Clear Politics average of the latest general election polls, Trump leads Kamala 58.5% to 48.4%. It's literally a 0.1% margin.

• Their average of swing state polling gives Trump an electoral college lead of 287 to 251.

Early voting: More than 78 million Americans have already voted early — roughly 43 million in-person and 35 million by mail.

• By gender, women [53%] are outpacing men [44%] in early voting.

• By party: 

  • 🔵 41% were Democrat

  • 🔴 39% were Republican

  • ⚪️ 20% were Independent

Zoom out: In order to become president, a candidate needs to secure 270 electoral votes to win out of the 538 that are available.

The swing states in this election cycle are broken into two groups [brackets are the number of electoral college votes]:

• ⛏️ The Rust Belt: Pennsylvania [19], Michigan [15], Wisconsin [10]

• ☀️ The Sun Belt: Georgia [16], Arizona [11], Nevada [6], North Carolina [16]

In a scenario that assumes the non-swing-state vote for the expected candidate, Trump would start the night with 219 and Kamala with 226.

Pathways to 270: Most political strategists believe Trump is best positioned in the Sun Belt, while Kamala is stronger in the Rust Belt — however, these states are neck-and-neck and could go either way. Let’s play with a few scenarios:

• Rust/Sun Belt sticks: If Kamala wins all Rust Belt states and Trump wins all Sun Belt states, Kamala will win 270 to 268.

• If Trump wins Pennsylvania, he’s in a strong position to win and can even afford to lose both Arizona and Nevada.

• If Trump wins Wisconsin, he can only afford to lose Nevada but must hold all other Sun Belt states.

• If Trump wins two Rust Belt states, it is almost impossible for him to lose.

Big picture: None of this matters unless you vote. There is too much on the line for anyone to sit on the sidelines. Don’t just vote yourself; call family and friends and make sure they’re voting. If they can’t get to the polls - offer to drive them!

Ignore the suppression polls. Go vote!

If you believe a pollster named Ann Selzer, Kamala Harris is leading Donald Trump in deep-red Iowa, a state Trump won in 2020 by nearly 10 points. It’s so bad that even CNN is criticizing it. 🤣 

What is a “suppression poll”? It’s a survey designed to discourage voter turnout by projecting unfavorable results for a candidate.

The details: Four days before the election, the Des Moines Register published its final poll of the 2024 election cycle, conducted by pollster Ann Selzer. It found that 47% of Iowa’s likely voters support Kamala Harris versus 44% for Trump.

• The Kamala Harris campaign and the left-wing media quickly touted this poll as proof that the sitting VP was headed toward victory.

Back up: Donald Trump won Iowa by 9.6% in 2016 and 8.2% in 2020.

Here’s how she rigged the poll: In 2020, Iowa exit polls showed Republican voters outweighed Democrats by +8%. But in Ann Selzer’s poll, she surveyed +3% more Democrats than Republicans. So her sample is not representative of Iowa voter demographics.

• Even worse, voter registration data suggests Republicans increased their registration advantage from 2024.

Zoom out: On the same day, Emerson College released its own Iowa poll, finding Trump ahead by 10%.

Even CNN knows it’s fake: CNN's Dana Bash told viewers: "Republicans I’ve talked to in Iowa think that that is probably overstating her support."

The last word goes to Trump, who wrote on Truth Social: “No President has done more for FARMERS, and the Great State of Iowa, than Donald J. Trump. In fact, it’s not even close! All polls, except for one heavily skewed toward the Democrats by a Trump hater who called it totally wrong the last time, have me up, BY A LOT. I LOVE THE FARMERS, AND THEY LOVE ME.”

Do not be discouraged. Vote!
