Soak it in. Donald Trump won 312 electoral votes, the popular vote, swept all seven swing states, we re-took the Senate majority, and it looks like we’re going to keep the House.

Very soon, the hard part begins: Governing and delivering on the promises that gave us this new, broad coalition in Trump’s reformed Republican party. We’ll discuss that in the coming days.

How Donald Trump built a majority coalition

Donald Trump’s election victory, capped by a +5 million vote popular vote win, highlights his growing popularity across key demographics.

Zoom out: As I write this, Trump is winning the popular vote with roughly 73 million votes compared to Kamala's 68 million.

Hispanic voters: Trump earned 45% of the Hispanic vote nationwide, up from 38% in 2020, largely due to his policies on economic growth and border security. In particular, Hispanic men broke for him with 54% support.

Black voters: Overall, Trump earned 13% of the black vote, up from 8% in 2020. His growing support was especially strong among black men, and he earned 20% of the vote.

Young voters (18-29): Trump earned 35% support from young voters, up from 24% in 2020. Among young men, Trump earned a majority of 56% support.

Christian voters: Trump earned 56% of the Catholic vote, up from 47% in 2020. He also earned 63% of Protestant vote, up from 54% in 2020.

Asian voters: Trump earned 38% of support from Asian voters, up from 34% in 2020.

Big picture: Trump’s populist policies on economics, border security, and the culture wars built a dynamic majority. Now, he has the unique responsibility of keeping this new coalition intact over the next four years.

World leaders react to Trump’s victory

Leaders from across the globe rushed to congratulate President-elect Donald Trump on his victory as the world readies itself for his America-first approach to foreign policy.

🇺🇦 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on X: "Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on his impressive election victory! ... I am looking forward to personally congratulating President Trump and discussing ways to strengthen Ukraine's strategic partnership with the United States."

🇮🇱 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “Congratulations on history’s greatest comeback! Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America. This is a huge victory!”

🇷🇺 Russian President Vladimir Putin did not congratulate Trump publicly, but it’s reported he did so quietly through “mutual friends.” The U.S. is currently funding a proxy war against Russia, so it is not unusual that there would be no public message.

🇨🇳 Chinese President Xi Jinping reportedly called Trump to congratulate him on his win and hoped for a "new era, so as to benefit both countries and the world," according to a statement from China's foreign ministry.

🇲🇽 Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum wrote on X: “I would like to express my most sincere congratulations to Donald Trump... I am certain that we will continue to work together in a coordinated manner, with dialogue and respect for our sovereignties…” This will be an interesting relationship to watch unfold as Trump will make border security and deportation a priority.

🇬🇧 U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer wrote on X: "Congratulations President-elect Trump on your historic election victory. I look forward to working with you in the years ahead."

🇭🇺 Hungarian President Viktor Orban wrote on X: “The biggest comeback in US political history! Congratulations to President @realDonaldTrump on his enormous win. A much needed victory for the World!"

🇹🇼 Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te wrote on X: "Sincere congratulations to President-elect @realDonaldTrump on your victory. I'm confident that the longstanding #Taiwan-#US partnership, built on shared values & interests, will continue to serve as a cornerstone for regional stability & lead to greater prosperity for us all."

🇮🇷 Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani could not be reached for comment, as Donald Trump eliminated him in a drone strike in 2020… :)

☎️ Joe Biden called Donald Trump to congratulate him on his election victory and invited him to the White House to discuss the transition. Read more.
