Wake Up Right - October 1, 2025

Happy Day 1 of the Democrat shutdown, Wake Up Right fam! Yesterday, lawmakers on the left refused to vote to keep the government open – instead demanding funding for healthcare expansion that would let your tax dollars fund free medical care for illegal aliens.
In related news: It’s been revealed that when President Trump met with Democrat leaders [Schumer and Jeffries] this week, he generously presented them with Trump 2028 hats. 🤣

Trump brings Big Pharma to heel

President Donald Trump rolled out his most aggressive move yet against Big Pharma – unveiling a landmark deal with Pfizer and announcing TrumpRx, a new federal platform to slash prescription costs by up to 85%.
The details: The rollout came in the Oval Office with Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla at Trump’s side – along with key cabinet members like Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Pfizer pledged to sell Medicaid drugs at “most favored nation” prices – pegging U.S. costs to what wealthy countries like Germany and Japan pay.
Pfizer also committed to investing $70 billion in bringing its manufacturing back to the U.S.
TrumpRX: Trump also announced TrumpRx, a new federal website that will let Americans buy prescription drugs directly from manufacturers at up to 85% discounts by cutting out the middlemen that drive up costs.
Zoom out: For decades, U.S. patients have paid the world's highest prices for prescription drugs – sometimes 3X higher than our European counterparts.
What they’re saying:
President Trump: “This is one of the biggest things we’ll do. We’ll be reducing drug prices by 100%, 300% or more.”
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr: “Never has a president stood up so bravely for the American people with respect to health care.”
Pfizer CEO Bourla: “Today we are reversing an unfair situation.”
Reality check: This deal will not affect the 2/3 of Americans who get their healthcare from private insurers. However, they already receive lower costs via co-pays.
Tariff pressure: Last week, President Trump announced we “will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any branded or patented Pharmaceutical Product, unless a Company IS BUILDING their Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plant in America.”
Back up: In July, Trump sent letters to 17 major pharma companies, demanding price cuts. Since then, the following have announced lower-cost direct-to-consumer drugs: Pfizer, PhRMA, Novo Nordisk, Eli Lilly, AstraZeneca, Sanofi, Roche, Zealand Pharma, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Wisp, and AbbVie.
Pediatric cancer: Later in the day, Trump signed an executive order to provide funding and remove regulations to help unlock cures for pediatric cancer.
What's next? Trump Rx launches in early 2026.

Ending the war on warriors

“Today, we end the War on Warriors.”
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth laid out how the U.S. military is returning to “ruthless, common-sense standards” — recommitting to fitness and grooming standards.
The details: Hegseth spoke to military officials at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia yesterday about keeping standards “uniform, gender neutral, and high” and outlined new policies, which include:
Return to a “highest male standard only” for combat roles – in other words, both genders will need to meet the highest fitness requirements. Hegseth said: “If you can’t meet the male level standard … find a new profession.”
No more beardos: Hegseth announced new grooming standards, saying: "No more beards, long hair, superficial individual expression... We don’t have a military full of Nordic pagans."
Physical Training requirements: Hegseth announced that every rank must pass fitness and weight tests twice a year and do daily "hard PT."
Throwback: Hegseth introduced a “1990 test,” demanding today’s standards match those from before diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) era reforms.
Back up: Last month, President Trump restored the Pentagon’s original name, officially rebranding the Department of Defense as the Department of War.
President Trump addresses the room: Trump attended the event and spoke for over an hour, at one point saying: "In this effort, we're a team—and so my message to you today is simple: I AM WITH YOU, I support you, and as president, I have your backs 100%.”
Big picture: President Trump and Hegseth have been determined to eliminate the DEI mindset that has festered in the Pentagon for decades and exploded under Joe Biden.
