Wake Up Right - October 11, 2024

Happy Frida, Wake Up Right fam. Donald Trump spoke at the Detroit Economic Club yesterday [which we’ll discuss below], but he had one simple line that sums up everything we’re facing today:"
"Our biggest threat to democracy is stupid people."
He should put that on a t-shirt.

🆚 2024 polling average: Trump 47.2%, Harris 49%
📊 Voters say Dems (44.4%) are more extreme than GOP (40.1%)

Donald Trump brings economic populism to Detroit

Donald Trump revved into Detroit yesterday, packing 500 horsepower of economic populism and a plan to fight inflation and bring manufacturing back to America.
The details: Trump spoke to Michigan business leaders yesterday at the Detroit Economic Club, where he pitched his "Build It In America" policies, which center around reducing taxes and regulations for companies making products in the United States.
Supporting the auto industry: Trump unveiled a new policy proposal to make car loan interest payments fully tax-deductable — making car ownership more affordable for Americans and thus increasing demand for automakers.
Tax cuts: Trump reiterated his proposal to reduce the corporate tax rate to 15% [from 21%], but only for companies making their products in the United States. It’s worth noting that Trump is the one who lowered the rate to 21% [from 35%] during his first term in office, which spurred tremendous economic growth.
Encouraging innovation: Trump proposed expanding tax credits for U.S. automakers and manufacturers in order to spur innovation.
Writing off heavy machinery: Trump wants to allow companies to write off 100% of the cost of heavy machinery and equipment in their first full year for new manufacturing investments to "build the sprawling, state-of-the art plants our country needs to be an industrial superpower in the modern world."
Big picture: Trump’s path to victory runs right through Michigan, a crucial swing-state where the Real Clear Politics average currently has him leading Kamala by 0.8%.

CBS exposes itself as Fake News

CBS News is facing harsh, deserved criticism after it was caught editing an answer given by Kamala Harris during an interview with its flagship news program, ‘60 Minutes’.
The edit: During Kamala’s interview, the correspondent, Bill Whitaker, asks her about the Biden-Harris regime’s relationship with Israel.
First version: In a teaser clip, which aired Sunday morning on the network’s ‘Face The Nation’ show, it revealed a long-winded, world-salad answer.
Second version: But on Monday, when the interview aired, they had swapped out the awkward answer with her response to a different question, which made her appear more buttoned-up.
You can watch the two versions here.
The bigger issue here is that this proves CBS News is willing to cut and splice an interview to show Kamala more favorably.
Show the receipts: The Trump campaign is demanding that CBS News release the full transcript, with press secretary Karoline Leavitt telling the NY Post: “[W]hat else did they choose not to air? The American people deserve the full, unedited transcript.”
There is precedent: Former CBS reporter Catherine Herridge took to X to back up team Trump, saying: “There is precedent. When I interviewed then President Trump in July 2020 @CBSNews we posted the interview transcript.”
She added: “It's about transparency and standing behind the integrity of the final edit.”
Trump responded to the controversy yesterday, writing on Truth Social: "A giant Fake News Scam by CBS & 60 Minutes. Her REAL ANSWER WAS CRAZY, OR DUMB, so they actually REPLACED it with another answer in order to save her or, at least, make her look better. A FAKE NEWS SCAM, which is totally illegal. TAKE AWAY THE CBS LICENSE.”
Back up: Earlier this month, CBS News hosted the Vice Presidential debate between J.D. Vance and Tim Walz, where the moderators were accused of showing bias against the Republican, trying to fact-check him despite the rules stating the moderators would not do so and eventually cutting off his microphone.
Zoom out: Wendy McMahon, the CEO of CBS News, donated $6,100 to Joe Biden's campaign in 2020.
For the last word, we’ll go back to Catherine Herridge, who concluded her X post, saying: “It's about transparency and standing behind the integrity of the final edit.”
