“After so many years of unceasing war and endless danger, today the skies are calm, the guns are silent, the sirens are still, and the sun rises on a Holy Land that is finally at peace.”
-President Donald J. Trump, yesterday, speaking to the Israeli Parliament.

Maintaining peace in the Middle East

President Donald Trump declared, “The war is over” yesterday, after signing a historic peace agreement to end the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. But with the fighting over, what comes next?
The details: Under “phase two” of Trump’s plan, Gaza would be governed by Palestinian and international leaders – led by former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair, with Trump himself chairing the oversight board.
An international peacekeeping force, primarily from Arab and Muslim countries, will police Gaza. Indonesia plans to send 20,000 troops, while Egypt and Jordan will train 5,000 Palestinians for local deployment.
The catch: Phase two calls for Hamas to play no role in Gaza’s new government. But the terror group has not yet agreed to this term.
Humanitarian aid is flooding in – hundreds of trucks carrying food, medicine, and supplies have been rushing to the war-torn region. Most of this aid is being funded by Arab and Muslim nations.
Big picture: Trump’s diplomacy has delivered calm in the region for the first time in years. But lasting peace will depend on the Arab world's ability to exert enough pressure on Hamas to force it to give up power.

Biden tries to take credit for Trump peace deal

Joe Biden and ex-Secretary of State Antony Blinken both tried to claim partial credit for President Donald Trump’s historic Israel-Hamas ceasefire – two years after the war began on their watch.
The details: Biden posted on X that his administration “worked relentlessly” to help bring hostages home and “end the war,” and minimized Trump’s efforts as having merely gotten the “ceasefire deal over the finish line.”
Blinken went further, claiming Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan was “based on one developed by the Biden administration,” and said it was “good that President Trump adopted and built on our plan.”
There’s something especially feline about Blinken…
Trump responds: Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump dismissed the claims as “a joke” and “everybody knows it.”
He added: “If a decent president were in office, you wouldn’t have had this war in the first place.”
Credit where it’s due: Former President Bill Clinton praised Trump, saying: "President Trump and his administration, Qatar, and other regional actors deserve great credit for keeping everyone engaged until the agreement was reached."
