The kids are alright: Transgender identity is in decline

A new report suggests that identifying as transgender or queer may be losing cultural momentum among Gen Z.

The details: According to a 2025 survey of 60,000 students conducted by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), just 3.6% identified as a gender other than male or female – down from 6.8% in 2023.

Sexual ID: The survey also found that the share of heterosexual students rebounded from 77% in 2023 to 81% in 2025. Meanwhile:

• Bisexual ID declined from 11% to 9%

• Queer ID declined from 8% to 6%

The share of traditional homosexuals [lesbian/gay] remained pretty steady. It’s the BTQ+ part of LGBTQ+ that is in decline.

Signs of a rising trend: According to the analysis, college freshmen were less trans and queen than seniors, suggesting that BTQ+ will continue to fall.

What's driving it? Eric Kaufmann, director of the Center for Heterodox Social Science, analyzed the FIRE data and noted that the decline in BTQ+ identity coincided with a decline in the share of students reporting anxiety and depression. However, he cautioned that there was a one-year lag in the correlation.

Conclusion: Kaufmann believes the drop is most likely due to transgenderism falling out of vogue. He writes:

• “The fall of trans and queer seems most similar to the fading of a fashion or trend. It happened largely independently of shifts in political beliefs and social media use, though improved mental health played a role.”

Big Tish harboring a fugitive?

New York Attorney General Letitia “Big Tish” James – already under federal indictment for bank fraud – is facing fresh scrutiny after revelations that her fugitive grandniece has been living rent-free in her Virginia home for five years.

The details: Nakia Thompson, 38, has been living with her three children in James’ Norfolk property since 2020 – the same home at the center of James’ bank fraud case.

• Court documents show Thompson is wanted for violating probation after misdemeanor convictions for assault and trespassing.

• Officials say she has “willfully avoided probation supervision” and remains a fugitive, but because her offenses are considered low-level, nothing is done about it.

Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree: Public records show Big Tish’s grandniece has a history of assault and threats against government officials, and has twice been arrested for attacking police officers.

Back up: Big Tish was recently indicted for bank fraud and false statements to secure a favorable loan for her Norfork home.

• She infamously led one of the high-profile witch hunts against Donald Trump, going after him for allegedly inflating the value of properties like Trump Tower and Mar-a-Lago in order to secure better loans.

TLDR: Big Tish is harboring a fugitive in the home she obtained fraudulently.
