Inflation takes a chill pill

After a week-long delay caused by the Democrat government shutdown, new data show inflation eased more than expected – all but ensuring the Fed lowers interest rates this week.

The details: The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.3% in September, below the 0.4% forecast, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

• Year-over-year inflation hit 3.0%, down slightly from August’s 3.1%.

Movers and shakers: Consumer prices cooled off in September, led by monthly figures like:

• 🍗 Chick: -0.6%

• 🥚 Eggs: -4.7%

• 🥛 Milk: -0.2%

• 💡 Electricity: -0.5%

• 💨 Utility gas: -1.2%

• 🏠️ Shelter: +0.2%

• 🩻 Medical care: +0.3%

• 🚙 Car insurance: -0.4%

It wasn’t all rosy, though. Offsetting these numbers were gas prices, which rose 4.1% in September.

The numbers: Inflation has averaged 2.65% since Trump took office — compared to 4.9% under Biden – which peaked above 9% in 2022.

Tariff teflon: Since ‘Liberation Day’ on April 2, mainstream media economists and the Federal Reserve have claimed President Trump’s tariffs on foreign imports would cause widespread inflation. We’re now five months in, and their howls have turned to whimpers.

Shutdown shenanigans: The report was released nine days late due to the Democrat-driven government shutdown, but only after BLS had to recall furloughed workers to get it done.

What happens next? The Federal Reserve meets later this week where it will discuss cutting the interest rate, which President Trump has been advocating for. This report makes those cuts much more likely.

Newsom gives illegal aliens a license to kill

A deadly crash caused by an illegal alien operating an 18-wheeler has highlighted the dangerous loophole created by blue states like Governor Gavin Newsom’s California.

The details: Federal investigators say Jashanpreet Singh, a 21-year-old illegal alien from India, caused a fiery pile-up that killed three people and injured several others on Tuesday.

Newsom’s open defiance: According to a Department of Transportation (DOT) report, California officials violated federal law by upgrading Singh’s commercial driver’s license (CDL) weeks after new federal restrictions barred illegals from obtaining or holding one.

• The new rule, effective Sept. 26, required states to verify applicants’ legal status.

• Singh’s license was expanded Oct. 15, in open defiance of the federal rule.

Blood on Gavin Newsom’s hands: Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy blamed Newsom directly: “It would have never happened if Gavin Newsom had followed our new rules … three people are dead and two are hospitalized.”

Back up: Singh entered the U.S. illegally in 2022 and was released under Biden-era border policies.

What’s next? He faces charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI.

Zoom out: This comes just weeks after another illegal alien with a CDL from California – Harjinder Singh of India – caused a pile-up while making an illegal U-turn on a highway, killing three.
