Wake Up Right - October 29, 2025

`

Good morning, Wake Up Right fam! Sorry to leave you hanging yesterday. A mix of a baby who wanted his dad’s attention at 4 AM and my wifi hotspot not working on the train meant I could not get anywhere near a full newsletter before getting to work.
On a positive note: Today’s e-mail has a little more cushion for the pushin as we catch up on two days of politics.

Is autopen illegitimate?

The House Oversight Committee claims many of Joe Biden's executive actions are "illegitimate" – including some pardons – because they were made using an auto-pen without his knowledge.
What is an autopen? It’s a mechanical signature device.
The details: The House Oversight Committee, led by Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.), released a 91-page report alleging that aides used the presidential autopen to issue clemency orders and executive actions “without Biden’s knowledge.”
The committee argues such actions are “void” and that Biden’s team misled the public about his “mental and physical decline.”
What happens next? Chairman Comer recommended the Justice Department investigate "every executive action" made by Biden – looking particularly at aides like Dr. Kevin O'Connor, Annie Tomasini, and Anthony Bernal.
Back up: Before leaving office, Biden issued pardons for major players like Anthony Fauci, Mark Milley, Adam Schiff, Liz Cheney, and Hunter Biden.
Zoom out: In recent weeks, the Trump Department of Justice has brought indictments against officials Biden did not pardon – including former FBI Director James Comey, Trump’s own former National Security Advisor John Bolton, and New York AG Letitia James.
Real talk from G: Invalidating the autpen pardons of these corrupt officials could open up the opportunity to bring retribution to some very deserving deep staters.

Your career will thank you.

Trump tariffs rev life into U.S. autos

President Donald Trump is taking a well-deserved victory lap as the American auto industry roars back to life — powered by his aggressive tariff policies and a surge in consumer demand.
The details: Detroit’s ‘Big Two’ – Ford and General Motors (GM) – shattered sales expectations, posting record-breaking quarterly results that sent stocks soaring.
Last quarter, Ford saw an 8.2% increase in sales while GM was right behind it with 8%.
The numbers: Since Trump’s ‘Liberation Day’ tariff announcement in April, GM’s stock has jumped 47%, while Ford’s has climbed 36%.
President Trump reacted, telling reporters: "It's all because of tariffs. If it weren't for tariffs, it'd be just like it was the last 30 years, where we lost about 52% of our automobile manufacturing business... Instead, they're doing phenomenal."
Tariff lies debunked: Democrats and their allies in the media told the public that Trump’s tariffs would crash the economy… Instead, they appear to be fueling a U.S. manufacturing revival.
Did tariffs cause auto inflation? Nope. Over the past year, new vehicle prices have increased by a modest 0.8%.
Taking it on the chin: Instead of passing on costs to consumers, GM absorbed roughly $4 billion and Ford about $1.5 billion.
The last word goes to Ford and GM CEOs, who both praised Trump this week:
Ford CEO Jim Farley told analysts: “I’d like to thank President Trump and his team."
GM CEO Mary Barra said: "We appreciate the administration's ongoing support for American innovation and jobs.”
