Wake Up Right - October 7, 2024

Welcome back, Wake Up Right fam. It’s been one year since Hamas, the Iranian-backed terrorists, invaded Israel and brutally murdered more than 1,200 people (including 40 Americans), taking hundreds of hostages.

The ripple effects from that day are still being felt today. In Gaza, more than 40,000 people have died as Israel seeks to eliminate the terror threat on its border. In recent weeks, Israel opened a second front of the war, carrying out operations against Hezbollah (another Iranian proxy) in Lebanon.

The reverberations have also been felt here, in the U.S., where a war 5,000 miles away has divided Americans and fueled a rise in antisemitism.

I don’t have solutions to offer, but I do know that the Middle East was a much safer place four years ago when Donald Trump identified Iran as the catalyst for chaos in the region and focused his efforts on neutering them — both politically and financially — opening avenues for peace among other nations. When Joe Biden and Kamala Harris reversed Trump’s policies, things began to unravel. What would another four years lead to?

As I was saying…

Donald Trump triumphantly returned to Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday — two months after a gunman came a quarter-inch away from assassinating him.

The details: Lee Greenwood sang "God Bless the USA" live at the Butler Farm Show grounds as Trump took the stage to thunderous applause and chants of “USA!”

  • Trump quipped, “As I was saying…” — referring to picking back up where he left off 12 weeks ago when he was shot in the ear.

The numbers: The highly anticipated event drew more than 28 million viewers on Trump’s X page alone, and according to RNC Co-Chair Lara Trump, there were an estimated 100,000 in attendance.

Corey Comperatore: Early in his speech, Trump paid tribute to Corey Comperatore, who he affectionately referred to as “our beautiful, Corey” — the 50-year-old former fire chief who died while using his body to shield his family from sniper bullets.

  • Trump said: “Every father and husband in America hopes that, if the time came, we would have what Corey had: tremendous courage, tremendous guts.”

  • Chants of “Corey!” broke out during the tribute.

  • Trump also paid tribute to the two who were injured by gunfire.

Elon Musk: The Space X, Tesla, and X CEO joined Trump on stage, donning an all-black Make America Great Again hat, where he spoke for several minutes about what he called the “most important election of our lifetime.”

  • Musk, who endorsed Trump after he survived the July assassination attempt, told the crowd: “The true test of someone’s character is how they behave under fire. And we had one president who couldn’t climb a flight of stairs, and another who was fist pumping after getting shot.”

  • Throughout his speech, Musk repeatedly stressed the importance of registering to vote.

On message: Trump was buttoned up on policy — hitting critical issues like the economy, illegal immigration, manufacturing, fracking, and more. He also spoke about Hurricane Helene and the poor response from the Biden-Kamala regime.

The politics: Following Trump's Butler rally, Polymarket online betting odds market put Trump at a 54.5% chance of winning the state after giving Kamala a slight edge just a week earlier.

You can watch his full speech here.

Criticism mounts over federal response to Hurricane Helene. How you can help.

It’s been one week since Hurricane Helene ripped through Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Virginia. As areas try to recover, criticisms are mounting against the federal government for its inaction and red tape preventing aid from getting to citizens.

Back up: At least 230 people are confirmed dead, and many are still missing. Millions of people lost power and utility services like internet and water.

The details: Dozens of anecdotal stories from storm-ravaged areas have come out in recent days, highlighting the failure of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ federal response.

  • In Florida, FEMA was preventing residents from removing debris from their properties. Gov. Ron DeSantis had to step in and mobilize state assets to expedite the removal.

  • In North Carolina, 75,000 are still without power, and a small Appalachian town devastated by the storm still has not seen FEMA help.

  • On Friday, Elon Musk shared that FEMA was preventing SpaceX engineers from delivering supplies and internet terminals to devastated areas of North Carolina, saying: "FEMA is not merely failing to adequately help people in trouble, but is actively blocking citizens who try to help!"

Fish stinks from the head: It should be lost on none of us that the three key leaders during this crisis have behaved, at best, disinterested in the suffering of their countrymen.

  • We learned over the weekend that last Tuesday, Kamala Harris sat down for an interview on the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast before visiting states hit by the storm.

  • Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas [in charge of FEMA] was spotted shopping at a luxury men's clothing store on Saturday afternoon amidst criticism of his agency's handling of the storm.

Take action: Over the weekend, I’ve thought a lot about how we can help our fellow citizens get what they need. Here are a few ways:

  • Donate to Samaritan’s Purse: This Christian organization has been on the ground, delivering much-needed supplies across six states affected by Helene. Click here to donate if you can.

  • Trump-authorized fundraiser: The Trump campaign has raised nearly $7 million, which will go directly to several hand-picked charities on the ground [including the aforementioned Samaritan’s Purse]. You can donate here.

  • Cal Roy Cooper: It seems that most of the persistent issues are coming from western North Carolina, where roughly half of the storm fatalities occurred. So, I would encourage you to make your voices heard and call Gov. Roy Cooper’s office directly. Ask what he is doing to get aid to the rural western part of the state.

This gave me chills…
