Happy Friday, Wake Up Right fam! Thanks for rolling with me this week – I know the newsletter has been arriving more like Lunch Time Right than Wake Up Right. My assistant editor [the newborn] is still learning the ropes… The upside: he works for free. The downside: he requires frequent potty and bottle breaks.

Explained: The U.S.-U.K. Tech Prosperity Deal

President Donald Trump and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer unveiled a sweeping $350 billion agreement meant to strengthen the "special relationship" between the two nations across advanced technology and science.

The details: The “Tech Prosperity Deal” seeks to accomplish two goals: strengthen American tech leadership abroad and strengthen ties to one of its closest allies.

  • 🧰 Jobs & energy: Starmer said the deal would create 15,000 British jobs and fund 12 advanced nuclear reactors to power both nations. Trump said it will deliver $50 billion in U.S. economic value, add 2,500 U.S. jobs, and power 1.5 million homes.

  • 📶 Sectors targeted: The agreement focuses on AI, quantum computing, fusion energy, 6G, and civil nuclear technology.

  • 💾 Big tech backing: Companies like Nvidia, OpenAI, Google, and Salesforce pledged to support the projects.

Some specifics:

  • 🤖 A new U.S.-U.K. flagship program will use AI for biotechnology and precision medicine, focusing on cancer and chronic disease.

  • 💻️ A joint task force will set interoperable standards across quantum hardware, software, and algorithms.

  • ☢️ Regulators also pledge faster licensing for nuclear reactor designs and site approval.

Zoom out: The U.S. and U.K. already shared $340 billion in trade in 2024.

Geopolitics: This deal specifically aims to help the U.K. "achieve full independence from Russian nuclear fuel by the end of 2028." President Trump recognizes that as countries like China and Russia forge stronger alliances against the West, it's crucial for the U.S. to strengthen its ties with allies like the U.K.

The real reason ABC canned Jimmy Kimmel

Despite the whining from the left, Disney’s suspension of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ wasn’t about caving to Trump-world pressure. It was about protecting ABC’s business – affiliates, advertisers, and viewers.

Back up: This week, Disney put the far-left late-night host on ice after his distasteful remarks about the assassination of TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk sparked outrage.

First, let’s look at…

What the left is saying: Former President Obama summed up the left’s attack in a post on X, writing:

  • “After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.”

  • This is, of course, incredibly hypocritical coming from the party that used the government to shut down conservatives – including Trump – on social media.

Now, back to reality…

What it’s really about: In short, Disney didn’t think Jimmy was worth the trouble.

  • Customer revolt: ABC affiliates Nexstar, Sinclair, and dozens of other stations threatened to pull the show after the backlash. At one point, 66 of 200 stations said they wouldn’t air it. Advertisers also began calling Disney directly to complain.

  • The numbers: Ratings were already sliding: Kimmel averaged just 1.1M viewers in August, down 43% from January. The key 18–49 demo coveted by advertisers fell to just 129,000 viewers — less than half June’s peak.

  • Dead weight: Kimmel's 1.1 million viewers pales in comparison to competitors like Fox News' Gutfeld! who pulled 2.8 million in August.

Jimmy wouldn’t play ball: Disney urged Kimmel to "take down the temperature," but instead, he planned to "fan the flames" in his next episode.

  • Disney CEO Bob Iger reportedly decided not to let him back on TV and suspended him as a "last resort."

Are there other motives? Disney is reportedly looking to buy NFL streaming assets like NFL Network and NFL Redzone – a move that could face antitrust roadblocks from the Trump administration. It’s also been reported that Nextstar is eyeing a multibillion-dollar acquisition of rival Tenga and would need the Trump administration's Federal Trade Commission to sign off on the deal. They may be sacrificing Kimmel and his low ratings to smooth their pathways to a deal.

Back up: During the Biden regime, Disney sacrificed conservative actors like Roseanne Barr and ‘The Mandalorian’ actress Gina Carano to appease the party in power.

Big picture: If Jimmy Kimmel was worth fighting for, Disney would have.

Shop the Wake Up Right store!

A few months ago, I was at a butcher in my neighborhood and saw a diagram of a cow, with all the cuts of meat labeled. And that gave me an idea for a t-shirt:

DOGE Butcher Shop — but instead of the cow, we use a pig. And the cuts of meat in the diagram represent all the waste, fraud, and abuse being butchered by the Trump admin.

Over the last few weeks, I worked with a really talented graphic designer who brought it to life. And on Friday I got a sample in the mail and I’m happy to say, it came out better than I’d hoped.

Also, my wife told me I had to mention that the t-shirt it’s printed on is Comfort Colors. Apparently, they’re well-known for high-quality materials. I just chose them because they are printed in the U.S. and made with 100 U.S. cotton.
