Wake Up Right - September 24, 2024
For the longest time, I’ve been asked why there isn’t a Wake Up Right merch shop. And the honest answer is I lacked two things: time and design skill. Time is still elusive as I’m currently writing this on the train to work. And to be honest, I’m still pretty clueless on the design skills, but I think I’ve learned enough to put together a few items that I hope you’ll like…
So, if you like the work I do in this newsletter and want to proudly rep the Wake Up Right fam, check out the new Wake Up Right shop!

DOJ releases letter from failed Trump assassin offering $150k bounty
Federal prosecutors revealed a letter written by Donald Trump’s failed assassin, offering a $150,000 bounty to “complete the job.”
The details: Ryan Routh appeared for a pre-trial detention hearing in the Southern District of Florida yesterday, where the Department of Justice (DOJ) released a hand-written letter:
In the letter, Routh writes: “This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job.”
Where did the letter come from? It was brought forward by a “civilian witness” who says he/she received the box months before the attempted assassination. The witness claims they never opened the box.
Why did the DOJ release the letter? Right now, Routh is only facing federal firearm charges. But the Department of Justice (DOJ) plans to also bring assassination charges. This letter could prove intent to commit that crime.
Is it wise to release a bounty? Don Jr. said the DOJ was “putting [Trump’s] life even more at risk with this reckless decision” to release the bounty.
What else did we learn? Routh spend weeks, maybe months, researching Trump’s patterns and scouting his Mar-A-Lago resort and West Palm Beach golf course. Investigators also found six cell phones in his car, one of which had a Google search for directions to Mexico.
Back up: Routh tried to assassinate former President Trump on September 15 at his West Palm Beach golf course, hiding in the bushes for nearly 12 hours before being spotted by the Secret Service.
What happens next? Routh wanted to be released on bail, but Magistrate Judge Ryon McCabe granted the DOJ’s request that he remain in custody.
Connecting dots: $150,000 bounty, traveling to and from Ukraine, multiple cell phones - at this point, it’s fair to ask where the funding comes from, especially as Routh has no record of independent wealth. However, he does have a record of support for the Iranian regime. In a 2023 book, he called on Iran to assassinate Trump and in this new letter, cites Trump’s policy towards Iran as one of his motivators. Is it possible the source of his funding is coming from the Iranian regime?

Ukrainian election interference?
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's U.S. taxpayer-funded trip to Pennsylvania, after he criticized Donald Trump, is being called out as election interference to support Kamal Harris.
The details: Zelensky appeared at Pennsylvania’s Scranton Army Ammunition Plant on Sunday, speaking alongside Kamala Harris surrogates like Gov. Josh Shapiro.
Zelensky talks smack: In an interview with New York Magazine, the comedian-turned-Ukrainian president took shots at both Trump and his running-mate J.D. Vance:
On Trump: “My feeling is that Trump doesn’t really know how to stop the war even if he might think he knows how."
On Vance: “He is too radical.”
Zoom out: Donald Trump has promised a swift end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine if he’s elected president, frequently reminding voters that there were no new wars/conflicts during his tenure.
Campaigning for Kamala on your dime: Vamce was flown to Pennsylvania by the U.S. Air Force, where he spent time with Democrats like the aforementioned Shapiro, Sen. Bob Casey, and Rep. Matt Cartwright.
What do Americans think? A poll from earlier this year found that just 24% of Americans think we should be providing more funding to Ukraine, while 31% oppose the idea.
The last word goes to Donald Trump, who at a campaign rally this week joked: "I think [Zelensky's] the best salesman in history. Every time he comes into the country, he walks away with 60 billion dollars. He wants so badly for [Dems] to win this election, but I'm going to do it differently - I'm going to work to achieve peace."
