Dems face lose-lose situation as shutdown looms

President Donald Trump will huddle with top Congressional leaders at the White House today in a last-ditch effort to avoid a government shutdown, warning that if Democrats force a shutdown, he will use it to expedite his firing of federal workers.
The details: With government funding set to expire at the end of the day tomorrow, Trump will meet with Senate Majority Leader John Thune, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Democrats – House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
What Republicans want: They want a short-term 'Continuing Resolution’ (CR) that will continue to fund the government at current levels through November 21, so both sides can have more time to negotiate a full bill.
What Democrats want: They’re trying to use the occasion to squeeze more funding into ObamaCare.
Trump's cudgel: Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought told federal agencies to prep Reduction in Force (RIF) notices for programs, effectively turning a short shutdown into permanent cuts.
Programs that support the Trump agenda (border, immigration, defense) will be spared.
The numbers: A recent poll found that 38% of voters would blame Democrats for a shutdown, while 29% would blame Republicans, and 21% would blame President Trump.
Real talk from G: This is a lose-lose for Democrats. Republicans aren’t asking for anything except the status quo for another two months. If they oppose it, they will bear the brunt of the blame for a government shutdown. If they vote with Republicans, they will feel the wrath of their bloodthirsty, radical base.

Mass shooting at church in Michigan

Several worshipers were left dead or injured after a mass shooting at a church in Michigan – the latest in a growing epidemic of attacks on Christians across the United States.
The details: The shooting took place during Sunday mass at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
Around 10:30 AM, the shooter rammed his truck into the building where hundreds of worshipers were attending mass. He opened fire, hitting ten people; four have died.
The church was set on fire during the rampage. It has not been confirmed how, though evidence suggests the shooter used an accelerant like gasoline.
Police confirmed the shooter was confronted in the parking lot and shot dead.
Improvised explosive devices were found at the scene.
What we know about the shooter: He's been identified by authorities as Thomas Jacob Sanford, a 40-year-old U.S. Marine veteran who lived nearby.
I have seen conflicting reports that he is a MAGA supporter and a MAGA hater. As of the time of this post, I have not been able to verify either claim.
Back up: This follows last month’s shooting at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, where a transgender shooter targeted Christians.
Zoom out: Violence against Christians has surged, with 430 churches and Christian properties attacked or destroyed in 2023 — an 800% increase compared to just five years ago.
President Trump weighed in, posting on Truth Social:
“This appears to be yet another targeted attack on Christians in the United States of America... PRAY for the victims, and their families. THIS EPIDEMIC OF VIOLENCE IN OUR COUNTRY MUST END, IMMEDIATELY!”

A few months ago, I was at a butcher in my neighborhood and saw a diagram of a cow, with all the cuts of meat labeled. And that gave me an idea for a t-shirt:
DOGE Butcher Shop — but instead of the cow, we use a pig. And the cuts of meat in the diagram represent all the waste, fraud, and abuse being butchered by the Trump admin.
Over the last few weeks, I worked with a really talented graphic designer who brought it to life. And on Friday I got a sample in the mail and I’m happy to say, it came out better than I’d hoped.
Also, my wife told me I had to mention that the t-shirt it’s printed on is Comfort Colors. Apparently, they’re well-known for high-quality materials. I just chose them because they are printed in the U.S. and made with 100 U.S. cotton.
