Trump DOJ looks to ban guns for transgenders

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is considering whether to block transgender individuals from buying firearms – a move spurred by last week's deadly shooting by a trans-identifying person.

The details: DOJ officials told The Daily Wire they are exploring policies that would restrict gun access for mentally ill individuals, including those diagnosed with gender dysphoria [classified as a mental disorder], “as part of a range of options blocking mentally unstable individuals from committing acts of violence.”

• Attorney General Pam Bondi’s office confirmed the department is considering “a range of options” to stop unstable individuals from committing acts of violence, especially at schools.

Back up: The push follows the Annunciation Catholic Church shooting, where Robin “Robert” Westman, a trans-identifying male, killed two children and injured 18 others.

• It echoes a growing list of trans violence, including Audrey Hale’s 2023 attack on a Nashville Christian school, and Anderson Lee Aldrich’s 2022 nightclub shooting in Colorado Springs.

The counter-argument: Leftist host of The Young Turks wrote on X: "This opens the door to banning MANY OTHER CATEGORIES OF PEOPLE from owning guns. If you're supporting this, be careful what you wish for."

“Gender-affirming care”: For years, establishment academics and the left have pushed for more "gender-affirming care" [sex change surgeries, hormone treatments, and puberty blockers] for children experiencing gender dysphoria. However, there’s a growing backlash to this thinking, and critics argue it often worsens mental health.

RFK Jr. enters the chat: Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced last week: “I certainly consider mass shootings a health crisis, and we are doing for the first time real studies to find out what the ideology of that is. And we’re looking for the first time at psychiatric drugs."

The last word goes to Daily Wire reporter Mary Margaret Olohan, who broke this story. She posted on X that a DOJ official said: “We’re not playing semantics with words like dysphoria. We’re talking about trannies, and we don’t think they should have guns.”
