Trump touts success while Democrats throw temper tantrums

President Donald Trump addressed a joint session of Congress yesterday evening, highlighting his administration’s achievements thus far and outlining his path forward — in strong contrast with Democrats’ childish and disruptive behavior throughout the event.

Don’t call it a State of the Union: In a president’s first term, the speech is called a Joint Address of Congress because they haven't served a full year to assess national conditions.

The speech: The theme of Trump’s nearly two-hour speech was the "Renewal of the American Dream." It focused on key policy achievements in his first 40ish days in office, such as record-low border crossings, economic investments, and national pride. Trump proclaimed to lawmakers:

• “I return to this chamber tonight to report that America’s momentum is back. Our spirit is back. Our pride is back. Our confidence is back. And the American Dream is surging—bigger and better than ever before.”

Democrat tantrums: Democrat lawmakers wasted no time making the night about themselves. Rep. Al Green stood up early in the speech and repeatedly shouted at the President while waving his cane. After giving him multiple warnings, Speaker Mike Johnson had the Congressman forcibly removed from the room.

• Several stripped off their tops during the speech to reveal black t-shirts with the word “RESIST” and walked out, including “Squad” member Rep. Jasmine Crockett.

• Dozens held signs with slogans like “MUSK STEALS” and “FALSE.”

• Democrats repeatedly booed and hissed throughout the entire night but were often drowned out by “USA” chants from Republicans.

Highlights: Trump’s speech was filled with new policy announcements and special moments:

• ❤️ Honoring Jocelyn: Trump announced an executive order to rename a wildlife refuge in Texas after 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray, who was murdered by illegal immigrants. Addressing her mother in the audience, he said it was “in loving memory of your beautiful daughter, Jocelyn." Democrats refused to applaud this.

• 🚙 Interest on car payments: In addition to his pledge to remove tax on tips, overtime, and social security, Trump commiting to making car loan interest payments tax deductible.

• 😎 Honorary Agent: Trump made a special moment for 13-year-old DJ Daniel, a 13-year-old boy diagnosed with brain cancer and spine cancer when he was 6, making him an honorary Secret Service agent. Democrats refused to applaud this.

• ✅ Kabul airport killer caught: Trump announced the capture of a senior planner in the suicide bombing at the Kabul airport that killed 13 Americans during Joe Biden's botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.

• 🇺🇸 West Point acceptance: Trump highlighted 18-year-old high school student Jason Hartley and informed the young man that he had been accepted to West Point.

• 🇺🇦 Ukraine update: Trump shared that he had received a letter from Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, where he expressed willingness to "come to the negotiating table” following last week’s Oval Office meltdown.

The line of the night — in my opinion — was when Trump touted record-low border crossings in February, saying: “The media and our friends in the Democrat Party kept saying we needed new legislation to secure the border, but it turned out that all we really needed was a new president.”

Record-setting: Trump’s speech lasted roughly 1 hour and 40 minutes, making it the longest Joint Address of Congress in history.

The last word goes to Raheem Kassam, who wrote in his review of Trump's speech: "But this wasn’t a speech about Trump—it was a speech about America."
