Trump designates ANTIFA a terrorist organization

President Donald Trump announced that his administration is officially designating ANTIFA as a “major terrorist organization,” linking the left-wing group to rising violence against conservatives.

The details: Trump announced the move on Truth Social, writing:

• "I am pleased to inform our many U.S.A. Patriots that I am designating ANTIFA, A SICK, DANGEROUS, RADICAL LEFT DISASTER, AS A MAJOR TERRORIST ORGANIZATION. I will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

Zoom out: The move follows the Sept. 10 assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, which Trump has tied to “radical left” ideology.

The legal angle: Under the Immigration and Nationality Act, the U.S. may designate groups as Foreign Terrorist Organizations.

• The bad news is: There is no statutory mechanism to label domestic groups like ANTIFA as “terrorist” organizations.

• But, wait… There are transnational elements of ANTIFA networks, which could give Trump a lane to pursue.

Back up: ANTIFA gained prominence in the U.S. during the 2020 George Floyd riots, when they and Black Lives Matter (BLM) led months of unrest in major cities—at times causing deaths and seizing downtown areas.

Real talk from G: Trump is appropriately moving to frame domestic terrorism in the United States as a left-wing problem.

ABC pulls Kimmel after disgusting Charlie Kirk comments

ABC and its affiliates have suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! indefinitely after the late-night host sparked outrage with comments about the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

The details: An ABC spokesman confirmed that “Jimmy Kimmel Live will be pre-empted indefinitely" after a major network affiliate, Nexstar, decided to yank the leftist late-night host over his comments.

• Andrew Alfoird, President of Nexstar broadcasting division, called Kimmel’s comments “offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse.”

What did Kimmel say? In his latest monologue, Kimmel claimed Kirk's assassin, Tyler Robinson, was a part of the "MAGA gang" and mocked Trump by mischaracterizing his reaction to his friend's death.

• Kimmel’s exact comments were: “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.”

The right move: Sinclair Broadcast Group, which operated 30 ABC affiliates, announced it would air a special "in remembrance of Charlie Kirk" special in Kimmel's time slot.

Reality check: Despite Kimmel’s attempt to rewrite the story, there is no evidence Robinson supported the “MAGA gang.” In fact, there is a mountain of evidence showing he embraced radical left-wing ideology. [as we laid out Tuesday.]

Zoom out: Before the announcement, Federal Communications Commission chairman Brendan Carr suggested his agency could take action against broadcasters over the comments.

What's the left saying? They're calling it hypocritical that the right has gotten Kimmel "cancelled," after it spent years opposing cancel culture. Leftists on X are sharing screenshots of their cancelled Disney subscriptions.

• Don't forget: When Tucker Carlson was removed from Fox News, the left cheered the move. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said at the time: "It couldn't have happened to a better guy... Deplatforming works, and it is important."

President Trump weighed in on Truth Social, writing:

• "Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent."
